ok now my car starts to over heat when im driving unless i turn on my heater then it goes back to normal. it never over heats while idleing (no load on the motor while idleing) it starts to over heat after about 10 min of driving...

changed thermostat, changed radiator cap, fan DOES work just fine, bled cooling system 4 times.

heres the setup
95 civic cx
stock cx radiator ( never had cooling problems even after 20 hard runs at the track while boosted)

b18c1 with je pistons, eagle rods, and GE block guard

the only thing it could be now is the water pump or the radiator. if it was the water pump i think it would over heat even while idleing.

i just started to think that since my car never over heated with the stock radiator before the rebuild and now it does only while driving ( with a load on the motor) that maybe that the block guard is blocking some of the coolant from curculating throgh the system as well as it did without it and since im using a small radiator now it can not circulate the HOT coolant caused by the block guard now as well as it did thus being why since i turn the heater on it helps the radiator by expelling some of the hot coolant through the heater core...

what do you guys think?

 

i've only heard of this with cheap made block guards never golden eagle. i would check all the other possibilities. did you change the thermostat to a lower temp one or one of the same temp. i have a golden eagle in my car and i never had a problem.

 

are you losing coolant as well or does it stay in the system when this happens.

 

did you bleed the air out of your coolant system? may try doing that before changing more parts.

 

Make sure you have the pcv valve on your breather box behind the block. Is there blue smoke coming out of your exhaust? Make sure to bleed the cooling system. If the radiator was removed then reinstalled there may be air pockets in the cooling system.

 

i have bled the cooling system at least 4 times there are no air pockets.... there are no leaks that i can see. and yes the PCV valve is on the motor....

i am going to try using a dual core civic radiator as apposed to my stock cx radiator.. although before the rebuild i never had a cooling issue before and now i do so we will see.

 

When the blockguard was installed, was it tapped down about 3/8" below the deck? If not then it "could " restrict water flow. Our blockguard was designed to sit below the deck to allow for stock coolant flow to the head. If it is down, then check the norms ( i.e. thermostat, coolant level, bleed the coolant system, etc. )

 

ya mos def check the height of the block guard....close to the deck is where coolant needs to be the most , and if the guard is there , that would surely cause a problem

 

i had a shitty rage blockguard for awhile and my car was overheating. i switched to a GE blockguard and never had a problem after.

also make sure your fan is turning on

 

My car has always overheated idling not driving. It used to creep up at idle then just drop back down after i started going. Were the headstuds torqued down to spec? If so, i'd also be sure that the blockguard was tapped down further below than the surface.

I guess try and get that dual core radiator and see if that helps first. They sell the delsol dual cores at autozone for like 100bux.
