Default Cam gear with a mini me???

IS A CAM GEAR NEEDED WHEN DOING A MINI ME????
IS A MINI ME 1/2 TOOTH OFF??

how many of you guys needed a cam gear when doing a mini me

my buddy just called me at work and asked me a few questions...
i did a mini me once with a D15B block qith a Z6 head and i already had a cam gear (it seemed it was a 1/2 tooth off)

do a D16A6 block with a D16Z6 head is also a 1/2 tooth off?
my buddy says the valves aRE tickin loud and i since i dont get off til 9 pm i cant see if is because is 1/2 tooth off and hitting valves... or just not adjusted
he claims he spent time on making sure it was timed...
the head is getting adjusted now

but just answer my simple question here on top!^

I had to use one with my B2/Z6 Mini-me. Whenever you use a 1.5 bottom, you'll need to use a cam gear to correct the 1/2 tooth off "situation".

I heard something about needing a different timing belt to correct the "offness". Like when going from a 1.5L block you need a 96-98 EX timing belt?

as far as the T belt, we already figured out that we needed a D16Z6 T belt, worked fine

No cam gear is needed. It is a half tooth off, but that wont hurt anything. Just get it as close to TDC as you can.

1/2 tooth advanced vs 1/2 tooth retarded as far as power is concerned (on a d15b7):

Is it me, or is that not the picture you intended to post?

Edit: OK, now I see what you were talking about.

If you want your timing to be on, then buy a cam gear, but if you dont give a ****, then just have it advnced half a tooth.

yeah. I had the same problem - y8 head a6 block- I put on a timing gear and advanced it 1/2° and now it runs like a honda.

now I just need an AFC and some dyno time

Hmm... That's wierd.

I'm using a Z6 block and an Y8 head - the cam lined up almost perfectly... At least I thought it did! I guess I'll have to check it again to be sure. I never thought there would be a difference (due to differences in deck height and head height, etc), but it does make sense.

is it just me or does that dyno picture have like 8 hp difference? To me 1/2 off being 8 hp is a fricken TON of power.

Yeah, but you lose about 15HP on the low end.

Retarded = More power up high
Advanced = MUCH more power down low
