have been experiencing 2nd to 3rd grinding with my 98 type r. dealer is fixing it now. how many people have had this problem? gm synchromesh did not cure the problem. only grinds at 7500rpm. annoys the hell at of me.

No fluid is going to *cure* the problem...they only put a bandaid on it for a while....once you have a grind, you aren't going to get rid of it...

 

Ive had this problem several times its your syncro's when they start going out it doesnt allow for proper spin up of your gears causeing a grind and severe situations engagement of the gear especialy at high rpms. Fluids like red line or royal purple lucas stabilizer only help to cushion rough shifts (slight grind). Install new syncros and you'll thank youself later.

I've had that happen before. It was a bad syncro. I got it replace under warranty.

 

how many miles on your car? When do the synchros usually start to go out? Mine sort of grind...only at times though, so i'm wondering if that's the start of the problem...?

 

I put 60k miles on my tranny before this infamous problem started to occur...

Put in the synchromesh and it 'aided' the shifts a little, but the grind is still there and the notchyness is only getting worse overtime.
Eventually, i'll pull the aftermarket clutch out and have Acura warranty the tranny as they should.

I don't powershift my car (it's not turbo) and nor will I.

 

got that in my 98 R too, need a synchro my friend.. im lookin into cheap labor..

 

how much does it cost to have synchros replaced?..my motor grinds 2nd to 3rd also

im curious about this also....... i hate my third gear grinds.. ive had it in both trannys my car has had...

 

i had the same problem....

replace ur 2-3rd synchro and dont powershift from 2nd to 3rd anymore

they are fragile on honda trannys...
