Default How can I tell if is a real GSR Tranny??????

I'm supposed to pick up a GSR Tranny for my friend that's out in the Sea. How can I tell that is a real GSR Tranny. What to look for? Any numbers? He is paying like $650 for it. Thanks

get the vin # off of it.....or before you hand the guy cash, have your cell phone handy...call a dealer, ask them to run the VIN to tell you what car it came off of...i did this when i bought my tranny...Radley Acura in VA will run VIN's and tell you the model and year it came off of.

tranny code doesnt mean anything on trannies guys.....some LS's say Y80, some say S80, some JDM ITR's say S80...only TRUE way to know based off of looks alone is run the VIN#.......then again, if its stolen and there is no VIN# that'd be kinda hard...oh well

Mine is S80. Newer GSR transmissions are S80. 94-early 95 were Y80 I think.

junglistgsr is right. tranny codes can be confusing. it'll be hard to confirm the tranny just by looking at the code. check the VIN no. (if it's legit) and/or drive with it (very last option if all else fails).
