I've tuned a variety of platforms using nitrous/turbo setups. The spool time of a turbo is improved proportionately to the size of the nitrous shot. The more nitrous, the faster the spool. The feel of the nitrous hitting and spooling the turbo quickly is unmatched by any other setup...if you have the right electronics, a solid motor, and enough fuel, this is an amazing combination.

I'd do it but, the tires break loose to quickly for it to be viable. Then again, I'm not pushing over 400hp with a laggy turbo either.

245 hp worth of nitrous and 23psi = no lag The power comes on very quickly and allows you to use a very large turbo on a very small engine.

I'm cool with just straight turbo setups... All of our Honda's also including Ralph's Supra and RX-7 run straight turbo motors and traction is all ready a big enough problem... Yes, the way nitrous spools a turbo motor is crazy but in my mind it's just not necessary... Just my $0.02 tho

I agree... If "turbo/nitrous" was the way, more of the pros would do it, instead of going strait turbo.

get a hob switch that switches the n20 off as soon as you get to 10psi, that way you only use the N20 to spool up a big turbo.

There is a guy on ebay that sells those hob switches for like 30$.

One of the electricians I work with built himself a propane injection system for his turbo desiel. He uses some sort of pressure switch that is hooked in with his propane injection. Only instead of switching off the propane at a certain psi it sprays it into the engine instead.

that is what i was planning on doing. thanks for the info. i was also thinking of using the nitrous for highway runs where i might need the extra hp. is this foolish? what do you dudes think

I think with the BIG turbo you should be just fine, no need for n20.

I think it would be good if you were runninga big monster *** trubo that didnt spool until 3g or so. Anything less than that is gotta be hard on the motor.

Yea, actually I personally think this is a stupid idea, unless you have a PT76 on a stock B16 motor (if it would hold) spool times arent going to be that bad on the freeway... Once you have a load on the motor you'll definately get a faster spool... Not only that but it's not like you can get into it all the way either... Maybe if you're on slicks but who cruises on the freeway with 26" slicks? We'll just start by this, Brian's car make ~560whp on 24lbs., on the freeway you can't go full throttle till about 7000rpm in 4th... That's the point that you're pretty much hooked... Duc's car on the other hand making ~700whp @ 30lbs. (still with no nitrous) hits waaaaay harder and will easily spin 5th at 120mph... Bring nitrous into either of these motors, or any similar setups and you're just going to have traction problems... Just my thinking again

Also, don't know if you've seen it and it's nothing special but it's just a little clip of Brian and me pulling onto the freeway... We roll around in 2nd and actually only get full boost in 4th gear, it would have gotten up there a little faster if we stayed in boost but Brian was shifting at 7-7500rpm... Nitrous would have spooled down low but who drives on the freeway at 30mph (and we would have gotten a lot more wheel spin)...

it doesn't matter whether it's Turbo + Nitrous or Straight Turbo, you're going to have traction issues on the freeway with a lot of power.

Save the nitrous for when you're on slicks if you decide to go that route.

think of it this way, if you need nitrous to spool a turbo, you dont need nitrous for power, and if you need nitrous for power, then you dont need it for spooling

Yep, it all depends on your application. If you're running on the street with street tires, you're going to break traction quite easily

Kataku2K3-

That's a killer video...and a perfect example of a car that definitely needs traction over nitrous I'd love to go for a ride in that thing someday.
