Default are all 5 bolt hosings made by precision

just recently bought a garret t3/t40e 57 63 with 5 bolt housing, the exhaust housing has precision stamped on it (I thought everything was going to be made by garrett) - is this normal?

someone sold you a precision turbo. the garret units are different cast alltogether. No big deal really.

You probably got an SC34E. How much did you pay?

I see now. You paid for the 5-bolt "upgrade"?

so is this normal when buying a garret t3/t40e with a 5 bolt for the exhaust housing to be made by precision or some other company and does garrett even make a 5-bolt housing. Just curious - thanks.

I thought I read before that they have to use a precision housing becaues garrett does not make a 5 bolt housing for a stage 3 wheel. I know if you get the 5 bolt option form cheapturbo.com they use a precision housing.

hey thanks...... I was thinking if garrett made one it would come that way straight form garrett instead of their dealers having to build it - by the way when did garrett start assembling their stuff in mexico, I thought I was getting an american made product

that is correct.
there are 2 choices for the 5bolt stg3 housings, precision and turbonetics.
being that turbonetics is no longer a Garrett dealer, we would rather support a Garrett dealer and use the precision housings.
on top of that, i find the precision 5bolt housings to be a much nicer casting than the turbonetics.
to touch on the 5bolt vs. 4bolt again: we havent done any testing as to which housing actually performs better or spools faster. but, for most of the honda manifolds on the market(ecspecially a/c compatible) the 5bolt offset must be used.
however, due to the angle of entry at the wheel from the volute of the 4bolt housing, i would imagine that the 4bolt housing would perform minimally better.
