Default I've made my decision... about to purchase B16A

A lot of you people in this forum know about my mysterious bogging sohc zc motor. It turns out that it is the piston rings in 2 of the cylinders. The total cost and labour needed for this repair is quite expensive. Therefore I feel that it is just a waste of money just to get my car running again. With a little more money i could purchase a low mileage first-gen B16 swap, so I am going to go ahead a purchase this motor later this week.

I just have a few questions:

-do I need new drive shafts ?
-What ecu is best for this motor?
-Best mount kit is?? (price and quality)
-What common problems will I run into doing this swap?

Hopefully I'll enjoy my decision with this motor.

Yes you do need drive shafts
PR3 ecu is what i'm running it's works fine
Best mount kit is the hasport kit in my opinion
you will need a upper radiator hose of a 91-93 integra and wire up the vtec.

yes new drive shafts i assume u have a DX or a SI so u will not need new knuckles
ECU go with hondata they are nice down the road and make the B16 run alot better then the stock map.
hasport for the mount kit they are billet AL and really hold the motor well
it is a pretty easy swap i would get a new timing belt and water pump. and put a new clutch in when u have it apart put in GM sycro mesh in the tranny and clean the whole motor the Vtec will be easy to hook up hasport even has kits pre made if you want to do that. u will be happy with the B16

AZ Racing makes GREAT mounts and they are like 200+$ cheaper than the Hasport's.

There's some others on this board that agree with me.

infact, Jisu009 said he likes them better than the Hasports. I believe he has them in his IRDC race car.

edit: I have hasport mounts the "new billet" ones and I love them... If I had to do it again I would have chosen to save 200$ and got the AZ racing ones.

I also recently just joined the club. I was originally going to do a Z6 head swap, but "word of mouth", and numerous readings changed my mind. Soooo now I need to get rid of my existing Engine, Tranny, Ecu....

Nice upgrade from d to B but for under $200 and a nice set of tools you can DIY and rebuild the Ds bottom end. But if you think you will have more fun with a B well go ahead.

Thanks for the support guys

I've already found a place in my city who sells B16A1 w/ tranny, ecu, and harness for $1650 CDN.
That is about $1270 US. Is this a fair price?

I am going to visit a couple of other places tomorrow for quotes on this motor.

My ultimate goal was to do this swap on my own, but unfortunately I don't have a garage.. or even a driveway... or the tools...
I will have to pay a shop to swap the motors

I will try to find a place that sells those AZ Racing mounts.. (i have never heard of them). How is Placeracing for mounts?

Whats the difference between PR3 and PWO ecu's?

I found a bunch of B16A1 on ebay for $300 US - $1400 US... but too bad they dont ship to canada.

I am hoping to get this all installed and running by next weekend.. maybe the following monday. Also I'll be replacing the blown shocks with either tokico blue or KYBs. A full 2.25" mid pipe and exhaust is also on the list.

I am expecting to be about $4500 - $5000 poorer after all this.

My wallet won't be smiling but I sure will be

I'll update this thread as much as possible, or whenever I get something new.

Thanks for your replies guys, keep 'em coming

I am currently using AZ mounts. Full billet construction and lifetime warranty as well. I believe they are $299 or something like that with free 49 state shipping. Their web site is http://www.azracemachine.com or its http://www.azraceandmachine.com . Its one of those. Plus the guys there are pretty cool to deal with. No complaints from me.

Hey there, I paid 1600$ for my B16A with engine/trans/ecu(PR3)/axles I also bought about 500$ of stuff from Honda, regular maintenance stuff like timing belt, water pump etc.

I bought the AZ RAce and MAchine mounts as well, came out to 408$ CDN after exchange and shipping..SWEET and they ship USPS too, so no stupid fees like UPS.

I also bought a Exedy racing clutch and Flywheel from ebay, 750$ CDN for that. :D

My running total is now ~3900$ of what I spent so far. I'm doing the work myself in my garage. I knew there was a good reason to buy a house. LOL

If you want I can post all of what I bought so far and prices.

what's the exact car do i say the B16A1 is from?
cuz i want to order new water pump and timing belt for B16A1
is it the delsol?

would B16A2 (99-00 Civic Si(r)) parts fit B16A1?

94+ Del Sol Vtec is the motor you would want to order most things from. like Timing belt/water pump etc. Some things like clutch/flywheel needs to be from a 90-91 Integra.

http://www.defcon-racing.com was offering a deal where it was 4000$ installed for the B16A with new clutch and timing belt/water pump etc.. might want to look into that.

Ok... That's it. I'm sick of you guys whoring out these AZ Racing mounts. So here we go..

#1. If you buy the $1499 Swap from HMotorsonline.com you get the HASport mounts for $350. AND you don't have to buy the ******* integra brackets for those... the goddamned $299 AZ Racing price tag is inflated to nearly $380-$400 when you add shipping and bracket costs. You're getting RIPPED OFF!!. Get the whole swap from Hmotors, take them up on their HAsport discount, buy their discounted HASport linkage, the Discounted HASport conversion harness, and there you go. You are done. $2300 MAXIMUM for everything including a great warranty, axles, ECU, Mounts, Linkage, Wiring, and Motor/Tranny AND SHIPPING!! Geez... get it there and be done with it.

#2. The ******* $499 Price on the HASport Mounts is LIST PRICE if you haven't noticed, nobody sells anything for list price, the list price is what people can get away with selling something for... in the Sport Compact market where nearly everything we buy is overpriced by as much as 200% morons Will and do get away with that... But you can't hold that against HASport.

#3. Stop saying the AZ race mounts are better, you have no proof... and all the aftermarket tuners I've EVER SEEN use HASport... geez.

To recap....
HASport Mounts are $350 from Hmotorsonline when you buy the complete swap. There are NO BRACKET COSTS!! and the shipping is included with the motor... the AZ mounts are $299 + The Brackets + The Shipping... conservatively $400-$450.

ok thanks for clearing that up about mounts.... but i still am ordering AZ mounts. (it doesnt really matter which mounts i get... i just got these since they were $282. )

Ok i visited many motor places today.
-I was offered $1400 for (40-50K) B16A1 w/ tranny(YS1), ecu (pr3), and harness.
-Another place has it for $1600 (30-40K) B16A1 w/ tranny (S1), ecu (pr3), and harness.
-The "look" of the $1400 motor looks VERY CLEAN.
-The "look" of the $1600 motor looks really messy. (black oil residue everywhere all over tranny case and block... does this mean the motor is leaking somewhere?)

-I bought a new 90-93 teg rear mount bracket from dealership for $86
-90-93 teg axles i can get for $75 each (rebuilt).. same place they sell the $1400 motor

I feel like I am set, HOWEVER... which motor should I buy?
Also, is the YS1 tranny better than S1?

Thanks guys

Well, I have a B16A swap. I live on the west coast of Canada.

I bought the B16A, Pw0 ecu, S1 transmission with Intermediate shaft, starter, alt, etc etc for 2000. This was about the best price I could find over here.

I love my S1, but if you can get the YS1 with limited slip I would reccomend that.

EDIT: Dirt and crap on the motor is BETTER. This was you know that they aren't trying to hide something. My b16 was dirty as **** and it has 220+ PSI all across and no blown gaskets.

Cool, thanks man
It does make sense....
but dammit! the YS1 is on the CLEAN motor.. im pretty sure it doesn't have lsd. but the guy told me he is going to slap on the YS1 from the B16A2 since the B16A1 that im going to buy has an automatic tranny. He seems to be a cool guy since he said that he's also going to check if the clutch is worn/good as he's swapping the trannys for no charge.

Good luck... Just make sure you give http://www.hmotorsonline.com a fair look. 1499 for that warranty, PERFECT motors, and everything included is a good deal. Good luck with those mounts too.
