Default Hitting Fuel Cutoff

I've been nervous about doing it for a long time until one day I finally grew some nuts and gave it a shot. I was expecting the "waa waa waa" of the engine bouncing off the limiter, but mine got to 8200 and just stopped like it just wouldn't go anymore. It wouldn't bounce like I expected. I have a lightweight flywheel (11 pounds)..

Is it supposed to bounce?

I had it floored and it is a stock OBD1 GS-R ECU.

You think there is a problem with something?

Why were you trying to hit rev-limiter?

You do know that its really really bad on your engine right? It instantly leans out the cylinders which runs a high risk of detonation, not to mention the possibility of valve train damage...

I realize that. The reasons I hit it is because I installed the GS-R engine into my LS. I bought the whole RPM range of the engine so I decided I needed to make sure that the whole RPM range worked.

I don't do it to show off, just to make sure it worked.

Well, you're getting up to 8200, so I'd say you got all of the range.

Now, were you in neutral? or were you in a gear? This could make a difference.

I know my LS definately has fast bounce to its limiter, but I've only heard it twice thank goodness...

I was in neutral, not moving.

I thought about it some more, it didn't just shut down or anything. It's sounded like.. well.. if you are in gear and you have the RPMs pretty high and you don't let it go up or down. It just sounded like the engine didn't want to go any higher.. like it lost all of it's power and just stopped going up at 8200. Didn't bounce or move around, the tach just stopped at 8200.

It stayed running and stayed right at 8200, but wouldn't go any higher.

I don't have any upgrades to the engine other than clutch and flywheel so there isn't anything special with the engine...

its not really that bad hitting rev limit, thats what its there for

It does not lean out, it is fuel cut. Lean out at redline(boom), cut fuel at redline(rpm drops)

Both my GSR and my buddie's LS bounce off the limiter. With the intake it is really noticable, makes quite a racket.

My GSR bounces off the redline in gear. Yours probably wasn't bouncing since you were in neutral. Do try it in gear and see if it does indeed bounce off redline.

Then I'll give it a shot in first or second when I bring it out of the garage.

What are you guys talking about? Not smart in neutral? It's the same as if it were in gear.

Don't worry ThePro, that's why the limit is there. You can hit it all day long and you'll be fine. (Just make sure the car is warmed up ).

That's the reason the rev limit is there. Your valve springs/retainers can take quite a bit more, but Honda put the limit slightly lower for safety.

Once again, you're fine. Depending on the "speed" of the rev-up, it'll bounce pretty quick. If it were in neutral, there is no load on the motor, so it'll rev up freely. As soon as it hits the limit, it'll "bounce." If there is load on the motor (in any gear driving) and you hit the limit, it'll jerk the car a bit and maybe bounce, but not that much.

when my car was running, the same thing happened to me. at around 8k it would jus jerk and not bounce of rev limter. i think it was a fuel cut off. i dont c why it dont bounce... weird..(this is while in gear) it kinda makes me fall on my face

Think of i this way. Hitting the fuel cut is like stepping your brakes.

Just hold it to the floor and don't let up. It'll probably bounce if you hold it there. You probably didn't want to let the engine rev that high so you let off.
