Default My observation and a little advice for those with the Comptech "icebox!"

About a week ago I was at Rodneys house, We were removing my front bumper to remove the front red "a" emblem in tact for possible future remount. Well low and behold I see that the "icebox's" horn section in the fender is just barely hanging on where the clamps attach. We ran out of time and light so I had to just stuff it back on and reassemble the front end with him.

Well, all week I notice NOW "must be all in the mind" But, I feel a little diferent throttle response and the sound is not as deep and quiet. So since I'm at 10,000 miles I spray a new foam filter and set out to swap it and fix my intake horn at the same time.

I got under the fender and the horn just fell off. I mean it was in good condition but the clamp just wiggled it's way off again I guess during driving with vibration.

I reasseble it all and make sure to reposition and tighten that clamp on the horn section. I even readjusted the metal piece that guards against the pipe rubbing. All done. It all works and feels/sounds just like new.

Now mind you I am a Comptech proponant and appreciate their product but, I am not so happy thatt he pipe just wiggled off after time.

And I guess I shoulden't have gone back into the house for more beer when my brother was cinching up everything, The First Time we installed it!

All in all everything is OK and no harm done but, word to the wise, check it every now and again. And Don't get me wrong I am still happy with it. At least it doesn't rub through my AC lines like the AEM did. Or is it able to Hydrolock "as easily!"

Check em out guys and be safe,

A.

You just have to retighted in every so often...I brought the subject up to Comptech the last time that I was there, we retightened everything and haven't had a problem since then...6500+miles, 120 miles at Buttonwillow, 4 autocrosses, 8 trips down the drag strip.

Same with my AEM, i have to adjust it every once in awhile so that it doesn't fall off. The easy thing is that i can just take out my corner light and adjust it in minutes.

with that comptech unit, do you have to use an aftermarket upper pipe? or can you use the stock rubber piping? thanks in advance

The Comptech pipe is a waste of money, use the stock hose.
