Default Anybody here smoke?

Maybe you guys here can help me out.Does anyone here notice there car smokes? If so how bad?I have a basically stock car.The reason I ask is me and two of my friends went to a ricer show this past Sat.afterwards another buddy of mine was filming us tearing aroung from his Mcoupe. After seeing the vid I noticed something odd.My car(00)and My friend jeremy's car(00)smoked horribly. We both have really high oil consumption(about a quart every 1-1.2k)It is needless to say we drive the cars really hard. But my friend who has a 98 did not smoke at all.He bought the car from a 40 yr old asiam guy who just bought the car(new)because he liked the look.He has almost 10k more miles than the other 2 cars.Does anyone have any experience with this? Our compression #'s are fine, perfectly consistant.I am beggining to get irritated by the use of oil.

its not the same smoke that comes out because the R's run slightly rich from the factory right?

Nope.It is definately oil. There is a bit of fuel smoke there,it appears, and I get black soot(spell check)on my bumper. But it is a blueish oil type smoke.

Maybe I should have posted about Titanium exhaust that seems to be the attention getter.

Well, my R use to smoke a bit when I was going at the track! But again, on the street nobody followed me long enough to make that kind of comment

The ITR is known for smoking and taking oil, maybe yours is just a bit more thirsty!

I hate to say this but your rings are worn man. The rings are the weakest part of the engine. Might as well do a full rebuild. This is time to upgrade internals if you got the cash. That is a common problem. Don't let it go on too long it gets worse, I know..

This should go down as the most misleading title for a topic ever

DC2k-specR: My GS-R (yeah yeah not a b18c5 blah blah blah) doesn't smoke. ~36,000 miles on it, you know how nice and soft I drive my car too

Dave,Here is what concerns me,you drive your car the same way I do, I am sure(to hell with that b18c5 junk)being b series engines it is extremely similar.Me and 6 of my friends all have this same problem. They were all at the gainesville event. My new short block has only 9k on it and the other ITR I made mention of has 23k.The rest are gsr's and they smoke horribly aswell.

DC2k: Adam (RS on this board) also burns a lot of oil in his ITR. Come to think of it, everyone that I know of that runs a bseries motor with synth oil in it AT THE TRACK (track being big autox and/or track events) burns a sh$tload of oil (Adam goes through ~1 quart/day at sebring). I burn maybe .5 quart every 3000-4000 miles on non-synth oil. Dunno if that has anything to do with it or not though.

I burn about 1/2 of a quart every 2-3 hours of tracktime. Poof. Nothin like screaming at 6500+ all day long to burn up some oil.

My friend was behind me one day when I hit VTEC and he said there was a big puff of black smoke (ie. extra fuel burning). So yes, Type Rs run rich, esp in the VTEC zone. Otherwise it shouldn't be smoking that much during normal driving or you may have something else run, like worn seals or the like (which someone mentioned)

Your rings never seated properly when your car was broken in, same goes for your buddy. Sorry, but its a harsh reality that B18C owners have to live with when synthetic oil is used prematurely, or too much abuse under 1000 miles takes place.
