B16B pistons good enough? Maybe forged instead...
What do you guys think. I am getting a JDM Type R motor and I figure that I will rebuild it before I swap it into my hatch. I was thinking about CTR pistons but are forged pistons like JE or Wiseco worth the extra money?
I am going to get the head P&P at Portflow and the combustion chamber deshrouded a bit. Compression will be about 12.0-1 or a little less.
TIA

NEVER count out OEM Honda parts, cause they are VERY GOOD! If it is even close, as in this case, I would stick to them. EVERY time I have strayed, I either break something or it does not work as well (in NA setting)...
I would stick with the stock honda ones aswell, but thats just my opinion. Hey AJR, how much to get a PR3 ecu reprogrammed, and about how long does it take once you receive it?

yeah i would go with p30 pistons to get a 11.4-6 comp ctr pistons are nothe best for a 1.8 block they run a 12.1-2 comp and arent as heat resistent as forged so there is more chance of detonation. Dont mill the head with either pistons. With the ctr's you will have to much commpression. Same with the p30 pistons and they don't have a thermal coating like the ctr pistons.
I was going to have the combustion chambers deshrouded to lower compression to 11.6-1. I think that I will go for the CTR pistons. I too have heard people having problems with aftermarket pistons.
The motor will not spin past 9000 rpm, and even at that, I won't be doing it very often. I just want a strong mid-range and a strong engine.
