Default clutch or tranny problem??

This one is kinda strange. We were out on a nice little drive, and suddenly in VTEC in 3rd gear, it felt like my car came out of gear. I looked down, the shifter was still in 3rd, but if I tried to accelerate, it just revved as if in neutral. Tried other gears, and still had nothing. The clutch felt fine, and there was no weird noises coming from the tranny.

Ended up pulling over after coasting to a stop. Tried to put it in first, wouldnt go anywhere. Nothing leaking from the tranny, no weird noises, and car idles and sounds fine. After a few minutes, I pumped the clutch a few times, it still felt fine, no vibrations or roughness, put it into 1st, and was able to move. Kept going, was able to shift like normal, used all gears, and tried to cruise home. No grinding, no roughness, felt just like normal. I was obviously taking it easy and not revving it out very much at that point. Then when in 4th below 3K RPM, it popped out again but shifter was still in correct position. I pressed the clutch a few times, and was able to get it back in gear and continue to drive.

What do you think?

Most likely this. If it is your clutch, you should be able to put the car into gear with the car off. To check if its in gear with the car off, shift into 1st. Get out and try rocking it back and forth.

hmmmmmm....if it was the fluid, wouldnt it be harder to engage and disengage the clutch?? I know that the fluid was recently bled so I dont think thats the problem.

Last night I had my caR out for a while and it also popped out of third gear while I was making a left turn off the gas. Were you making any kind of turn when it happened to you?

Nope, I was hard on the gas around 8000 RPM, needless to say I bounced it off the rev limiter a few times when this happened and it scared the bejeebus outta me. It totally felt like something just let go, but everything felt and sounded fine, just didnt seem to have any gear til I stopped and messed with it some.

Rob, dont you have a brand new tranny??

It is possible that one of your axles popped out of the transmission partway. Usually when this happens you get noise. And once it happens, it usually does not correct itself. Just something to check.

Sure do! ever since the tranny was rebuilt I have this strange problem... as can be seen in my video when I was at LRP...

I did not think it was anything then, but it has happened only a few time since... So now I'm getting a bit worried.

But honestly if the tranny takes a crap I'm going to get it redone by someone else then the dealer.

If its a tranny problem, Im fuxored. No money to fix it, and wont make it to Exb0. I can handle it if its a clutch and I planned on changing that soon anyway since Ive had nothing but problems with the current clutch. I can pull the tranny but I wouldnt know what to look for to find the problem. Shifter feels fine so I dont think its a linkage problem either.

One other thing I noticed when I was "coasting" to a stop (though it was still in gear), RPMs came down to idle and just sat there, and I think my speedo came down to 0 briefly as well. During the totally confused moments of this happening, I was cruising at about 80mph in 5th gear, RPM at idle, and I remember seeing the speedo go from like 20mph up to the speed I was traveling. Kinda like the VSS lost track of the speed for a second, dropped to like 20mph, and then realized I was still doing 80mph and started to climb back up to speed. Im not sure what that would indicate though??

Anyone else have any input? Wheres all the techies at?

Jumping ahead, either way I think Im gonna end up pulling the trans to replace the clutch. If its a problem with the trans popping out of gear, where should I look for damage? This will be my first trans work, and Im not too sure where or what to look for as far as damage is concerned. Ill have the Helms handy but any further help is appreciated.

Could this be a possible issue with the GM Synchromesh??? I used to have a 3rd gear grind, and the Synchromesh seems to have taken care of that, but maybe parts are still getting worn and to the point it wont even stay in gear now?? There hasnt been any signs of grinding though since the Synchromesh installed, but since the Synchromesh seems to work so great with grinding that it totally eliminates it and the parts are just very worn now???

I would say it would have something to do with your clutch and not your hydralic fluid for the reason that it happened while you were driving and not while you were engaging or disengaging. How many miles on clutch? Stock clutch?
