Default Noisy LSD

I've just bought a JDM ITR (1996) There is a whirring noise (best description) while turning, it appears from about 60-100% full lock in both directions. It doesnt seem to be effecting the drive in anyway and the car corners fine with good traction. Its only noticeable in low gears 1st 2nd and 3rd while taking tight turns. the previous owner had a lot of mods on the car, and it may be possible that he uprated the LSD also, but i have no way of finding out without tearing down the tranny and looking which i dont really want to have to do. If however it is the OE LSD could this noise be worn bearings in the LSD and also did the 96 JDM ITR have the same helical LSD as the 98spec or is it a torsion type diff? There is no clicking from the lsd just a whirring which is relative to the speed i'm travelling at.

See if it's any different after renewing/replacing the tranny fluid.
Honda MTL suggested.

Yeah i'm going to do that tomorrow first thing. I was advised to get valvoline GL5 MTF for it by a friend you ran a GroupA EG civic with an ITR LSD.....

Changed the tranny oil today to valvoline semi-synth GL5 oil and the noise is now completely gone!!! Could this mean that the old oil had run its life and had gone bad or could it still possibly be a bad bearing?

Could be a bad bearing or other parts, that oil is thick enough to mask alot. Also would be very helpful to know what LSD is in there, mostly in the case of if you went to HMTF. If the LSD starts to feel different in about 1800km, then it was probably changed out.

the shims are going or the shims were never put in their right, if he had to replace or put it in himself there are shims that hold the lsd in place if these are bad then thats your noise.

Had the same on my 01 ITR. Honda replaced the oil which fixed the problem for first few months but then it came back. They pulled it apart and found some parts had excessive wear. They then ordered new parts and fixed it under warranty. Now 5 months later the LSD is making a sort of knocking sound - this occurs irrespective of gear selection or wheel position.

Car is out of warranty however the LSD work is still under warranty but I have a bad feeling that Honda Australia is going to screw me on this one. They have done so for a number of other people I know including two S2000's that threw a rod each.
