SOHC d16y8 turbo
hey all . if im going to turbo my d16y8 and aiming for around 8-10 psi, would i definately need a bottom end upgrade? if so, what pistons and rods would be best, and for a good price? im on a low budget.
also, would it be necissary to upgrade my cam shaft (skunk2/zex...etc. stage2), valve springs and cam gear for turbo? would it make a difference?

Nope. D16's can handle 8psi daily no problem, 9psi still reliable, 10psi is not good for daily. 12psi is the highest you can somewhat safely go, but only for track every now and then (not if u race alot). Make sure you stay away from detonation. You will need good fuel management, that's all. At least the AFC hack. If you want to go higher than 12psi, get your bottom end built. No you dont need head modifications.
ok gents, heres a brief overview how it goes .
1) 8-10psi is the borderline for boosting a sohcvtec safely. if tuned properly it can be done, but to be safe 7-8psi would be more reasonable.
2) you really dont have to build the bottom end unless you go above say 10psi, and at that say eagle rods and your choice of forged pistons (arias,weisco,je,srp...) would be what you need to run 15-18psi(not including tuning and fuel management)
3) stock cam and valvetrain will be fine for even 10+psi

This has been gone over before. PSI means absolutely nothing for how well the bottom end will hold up. Different size turbos will make DIFFERENT horsepower numbers at different psi levels. You need to concern yourself with how much horsepower you will be making, NOT how much psi. 170-180WHP on a stock block is safe. 200-210WHP is marginal.
couldnt agree more. tuning/mangement is key.

There are plenty of ppl on here pushing over 200whp on stock internals. Just make sure you do things right (fuel mgt.) Like ryan said, PSI really means nothing.
