Phantom Grip LSD
anyone heard any good things or bad things about phantom grip. i know allen told me about them (from h-heaven btw) and thats about it though. imma swap a gsr into my '99 civic ex coupe and want lsd so yea. what are some other good slips??
well he phantom grip is the only lsd setup for that cheap but its not a full lsd when you launch soon as it detects wheel spin then it locks the wheels as where a normal lsd is lock all of the time but the phantom is awesome for the price call them and talk to a rep if you have any questions very informative
i can't speak for anyone but my self. its not an LSD. its a differential locker. it performs in the same manner as a posi rear end. i had one in my turbo cavalier, as $1,000 quaife was not a an option. all i know is it pulled me thru the corners like no bodies business.

Has anyone of you ever launched and felt like your car was going to smash into the side wall? Well thats what phantom does.... NOTHING!
I've used it and launching off the line with a 100 shot of nitrous, the phantom will not "grip!"

my friend swapped a jdm b16 with an si tranny equipped with phantom grip. It helps off the line because it does lock the wheels but real LSD can have an inbetween stage between locked and unlocked. compared to the phantom grip it is either locked or not. It is true though that phantom grip will pull you through corners. True LSD is torque sensitive and can I believe thats how its more accurate and can have the inbetween stages of locked or not, (not completely positive bout thats how it detects it ) but .....it all boils down to you get what you paid for. Phantom grip isnt bad if all you are gonna do is drag and drive in a straight line forever. I hate drivin my friends civic with Phantom grip because i dip through corners
DAMN. i didnt know they sucked that bad. i was thinkin though about jsut going w'a oem type R lsd. cant beat oem.... unless imma spend $900 on a quieffe. im not really ognan race the car either, its just a daily driver get me here get me there kinda thing. im just tired of the SOHC already. thanks peoples.
IMO...if you dont have the motor yet, i would buy it from http://www.hmotorsonline.com and just pay the extra $300 for an LSD tranny
phantom grip = explosion of differential above 250hp....
BOOM!!!!
it go BIZZZZOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
phantom grip merely acts as pressure plates between the factory diff springs and only helps to apply pressure across the spiders. as said before, the factory springs only apply pressure when under load...thus the sudden JOLT from the phantom grip.
This jolt as say....4k rpm and above (common clutch dump for burnouts) will equal exploded spiders in very short times from the stress that the differential is not DESIGNED for. HOWEVER!!! if you have a bonestock engine this will work for you just fine. On modified engines where people try to use one instead of dropping $800+ on a NORMAL LSD is where you run into the limitations of this system.
it IS aluminum after all....aluminum tends to go BOOM when stressed....
anyway, I had one on a civic. at stock it was nice. past that even at 6psi on a D16Y8 it went boom and took the tranny with it.

Phanton Grip is actual an LSD, there is no such thing as not full.
LSD is not locked all the time, that would be called a LOCKER.
LSD is suppose to lock the wheels when it detects an axel spinning faster than the other.

the Phantom Grip is a substitute for a real LSD. kinda like Soy burgers is a substitute for Beef burgers.
anyway, if you do plan on getting the Phantom grip, just make sure you don't go power hungery later on and boost your car to 250+whp. cause if that's the case you may just want to save up now and get something worthwhile. the Phantom Grip was something i was going to get when i was all motor since it was cheap and proven to work. but when i read reviews and stories about people making over 250whp busting their trannies, i had second thoughts because i knew that i wanted one day to turbo my car and that i would exceed that 250whp mark. so just plan ahead and don't waste your money on something that would become usless later on in the road.
