Phantom grip waste of money or best $300 ever spent
I need to know if anyone uses Phantom grip. And should i buy it or just keep the money for Kaaz LSD. Kaaz LSD is $970
save your money..
This is definatley one of those cases where "you get what you pay for."
I remember someone stating that. "The reason it is called phanton grip is, it is exactly that....*phantom* (ie nonexistant grip)
It self destructs alot as well..
btw is that a late 80's celica in your avatar? EDIT I just read your sig.
I have a 88 ST i drive in the winter, do you know anything about these? It has a low rpm hesitation..Mind if I IM you?

Get a grip man!...
Buy a real LSD... Quaif, Kaaz or whatever. Or... Weld up your stock diff! The results will probably be better and cheaper than a Phantom Grip!

ah, the annual phantom slip thread. lee grimes is the only one i know that uses it. might want to ask him.
i've heard descriptions of how the various diffs feel when they engage. quiafe=seamless, kaaz/cusco=solid and consistent, opm=little harsher, phatom grip=there's an lsd in here?

As one who has raced 2 seasons on one, I agree with Nate. With a new tourquier race-built motor, I have really felt the lack of "grip" this thing delivers.
Save the moolah and buy something else.

I have the diff from OPM and have briefly driven the Quaife, I don't remember a difference in _feeling_ the engagement. Actually, the only difference in feel from my memory was in steering. My diff was adjusted (tightened) up before this year began and I still couldn't tell an engagement difference, just that where I remembered light wheelspin in a few turns at VIR last year, I don't recall them this year. May just be driving differently or I have NO feel whatsoever for this engagement but to me, there isn't any cutover from engaged/not engaged so to speak w/ the diff in my car.

Waste for me but I went in knowing it was a risk of really not much money compared to other LSDs. It was worth a shot but the shot missed the target badly.
I have had 3 OPM LSDs in different car and like them for the price. I hear the Quaiffes are coning down in price as well singe my last LSD purchase. I have a Mugen to go in the next car but it arrived ina deal I couldn't refuse or I would have gotten another OPM unit.

You can feel the engagement of an OPM diff over an open diff or maybe a Phantom Grip. But if you drove 2 identical cars, one with the OPM and one with the Quaife I'd be willing to bet that 95% of people out there wouldn't honestly know which was which.
As far as the PG is concerned, I know of a couple of ITC guys that like them. Then again, in ITC you're trying to put less than 85ish HP down and some guys choose to run open diffs (and do it successfully).
I have the OPM diff in my ITC car and I like it. It is more "aggressive" (for lack of a better word) than the OEM Type R diff I had in my Integra.
At least it feels that way. It is two very different cars, so there may be other dynamics playing a part.

Oh I am sure you can between the open diff or Phantom Grip but that's really not "engaging" anything
I do have one data point on the PG. On a 944 (very similar to our diffs), a friend helped install a PG and could physically turn the stub axles in his hands w/ a fair amount of force. When the car owner drove the car he said he thought he could feel it working at first but not soon after. I don't want to say they are worthless but a lot of information points to them not being very effective.

phantm grip is for 1/4, its the same idea as the detroit locker for domestic, but no good for road course, real lsd units such as kaaz is what s recomended for road cours,
now think on what will you use the car for, and decide whether you want to buy it or not
