so today i'm driving and run over some big *** rock (it was unavoidable)....so as soon as i see i fly out of the back from my rearview i look straight and smoke is coming out from under the car so i immediatly stop and turn the car off....... look under and oil is pouring out...not leaking POURING!!......so needless to say i waited 2 hours for a tow....as they are putting my car on the flatbed the driver looks under my car.....he goes holy **** look at this!!.....theres a hole in my oil pan about the size of a softball.....he sticks his hand to feel how big the hole is and his hand fits into it....he sas he can feel the rod.......so my question is my mechanic said its gonna cost about $400....2 and change for the oil pan from honda..and 2 for labor......i think thats crazy....so will an oil pan from a 92-95 ex fit onto my 97 ex...cause i have one of those..also how hard is it to install an oil pan, my friend said we could do it this weeknd all we need is a good jack to jack up the front and take off the 4 bolts...your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

 

wow..... 200+ change for an oil pan?? i got mine with the gasket from honda for around $100....

 

You have to use a 96 or newer oil pan. I bought one used for $75. If all thats wrong is the oil pan. You should do it your self.

 

well i think there are more than four bolts on a oil pan. but other than that it should be fairly easy to do maybe no less than an hour to change a oil pan

and i dont no if that pan will fit ether

if anything i would say go to a junk yard and get 1 from a civic 96-00 civic.

Do it yourself and save yourself a **** load of money.

-Get any used 96-00 oil pan and an oil pan gasket for that oil pan.

-Jack up your car and take off your header, downpipe or whatever obstacle is in the way of pulling off the oil pan.

-Loosen the many nuts and bolts that secure the oil pan and remove the damaged oil pan (you may have to loosen or remove the transmission/engine brace as well).

-Put some sort of RTV sealer or Honda Bond (is that what it's called?) on the "vertical corners" (don't know what that area is called) of the oil pan gasket.

-Bolt everything back up and torque the fasteners to specs (or don't torque them if you're lazy).

-Fill engine with motor oil, start it up, and check for leaks.

I think that's it. Someone please fill in the blanks if I missed something.

 

dude that is sooooooooo rape. do the job your self it is sooo easy its like 10 bolts across one side and 10 on the other then a few on the side and its off. i believe they are 10mm bolts too if memory serves me right make sure u get a new gasket and use honda bond on the side u can do that job in like a total of 45 minutes good luck to ya and dont pay 400 to get it done

 

once again thanks for your replies...i want to try it my self but its god damn cold out side not to mention about an inch thick layer of ice.....when are these muthasuckas gonna clean up the roads..is it possible for me to sue the city for not cleanin their roads?
