Default tranny question...

sorry if this has been covered somewhere on H-T before, but i did search and only found one topic, and it only gave me a little info. i'm thinking theres more to it, so this is why i'm posting.
okay, so i heard that 96-00 EX(y8) tranny's are the best sohc tranny's.
how are they better or what makes them better than a z6 tranny?

i have a 93 sol si and i need to change the synchros, but i was thinking that i should just get another tranny. if i'm going with another tranny, i'd rather get a better one(y8 supposedly) instead of another z6 tranny. so if anybody can help me out or direct me to a link that answers everything to my question, thanks. if this should be in a different forum, please move it where it should be posted, thanks again.

hey i don't know d series engine codes, but i think the Ex tranny is the best outta the dx/lx/hx because it has the shortest gears and steel shift forks instead of aluminum. Think i read that in another post

wow i found it....took a little while

here is the link where i found the info
http://clubboost.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=6
just search for transmission and you will see where i found the info.

"Transmission/Flywheel/Clutch: Remember this, the shorter the gears the better. It is easier for the engine to push/pull the car. MistaBone's link: MistaBone's trannies The VTEC engines have always had the shortest gears and it is a “bolt on” part. The 96-00 transmissions will bolt on a 92-95 Civic. One small thing to consider is that the 96-00 transmissions have steel shifter forks instead of the aluminum forks that are in the 92-95 transmissions. "

So i guess the y8 transmission is better because it has steel shift forks instead of aluminum like the z6 transmissions. Hope this helps

edit: the post i just linked was copied and pasted from honda-tech
