Broke bolt while switching door hinges!!! arrrgghh
Well my upper driver side door hinge is beginning to get worn and when i shut my door i have to kinda pull the door up or it will bang because the locking mechanism isn't lined up correctly. So while adjusting i snapped the head off the bolt and now the darn thing is stuck in there.
1) Is there any way to get behind where the door hinges mount to the car to turn the bolt out? On first inspection i can't see anyway from the inside...maybe i have to take the dash completely out.
2) What's the best way to adjust the hinges...everytime i think i have it set to the right angle when i try to shut the door it is still too low to shut perfectly...maybe i just need brand new hinges...
Advice?

I think the safest way to attack this is by first taking the time and remove the front fender. This will open up a lot of space for you to get to those door hinge bolts. There are 6 bolts for the hinges - 3 each hinge. If you leave the fender on, then expect lots of scratches.
You will be in need of an EZ-out tool to remove the threaded portion of that snapped bolt so you can replace it. One missing bolt does make a difference.
.Mounting the door ins't too difficult. I have had my doors off before and putting them on was pretty straight forward. Lift the door and put it on the car. Make it latch shut. The door should stay on enough for you to put on the bolts back in. Put all the bolts in hand tight. Line up the door to your liking and tighten down at least one bolt on the top hinge and one on the bottom hinge in order to hold the door in place. Put the fender in place for a test fit. Remove the fender and proceed to readjust if necessary and test fit the fender again. When you get it right, remove the fender and toque the hinge bolts to spec and continue on by putting the fender back on.

My car's actually totally apart due to body work so i've got the front quarter off...i bought an EZ out kit (for $50!!!) from sears last night and i couldn't drill into the bolt for the life of me. I drilled for about 30 mins and only got about 1.5mm into it. At that rate i would have been drilling for ~2 hours!. For now i welded the hing flange to the car and i'll grind it off later once i figure how to get the bolt out. I'm thinking i can reach it from the inside of the car....or at least i hope

use some hinges from the passenger door if you can find them used...they are usually not as worn as the drivers side. top hinge on the drivers side is the same as the bottom on the passenger side...and bottom driver = top passenger.

good idea
It's too bad when i was at the junk yard last week i grabbed some off of the drivers side of a civic...only to find that they were worse than mine!!!

Hmm... what kind of drill bit are you using? I'm not sure if the door hinge bolts are special hardened steel or not, but if they are then you will have to invest in a carbide bit to make any progress into that bolt. You may not have to invest that much and just use a quality bit made for drilling into metal. A wood bit will not cut it (sounds like that's what you are using judging by the progess you made).
I just bought a crafstman set for pulling stript screws and broken bolts...i'll check what they are made out of but after all of that drilling the bit was fine...it just wouldn't cut in any.

OK i think i'm just going to order a new top drivers door hinge but when i look up the part number on San Leandro (http://www.slhondaparts.com) two part numbers come up when you click on #9 in this pic...

67410-SH3-003ZZ HINGE A, DOOR $23.84 $5.59
67410-SH3-K02ZZ HINGE A, FR. DOOR $23.84 $5.59
Which do i need or do i need both of them? Maybe one is the door flanged side and the other is the frame flanged side??? Would that make sense? If so $50 is a lot for a dang flange.
Thanks,
Vince
