Default Can't Believe.. CEL because of COLD weather??

ok.. my CEL is back on..
the same problem like before.. the engine seemed to be very shaking when I first start the engine.. but after a while, it is idle normal again...(but the CEL is still on of course)...
I know it will be gone in a couple days..
From my observation, it seemed that when I start the engine and outside temperature is cold (I think 45-50 F, not sure), the problem arise.
the last 2 week has been very warm (60< F) so the CEL is gone and never come back..

anyone know the probable cause of this? Bad Spark Plugs?

Aleph: I have appointment on Monday with John @ Baierl.. I almost cancelled it thinking that the CEL is gone for good.. I think I will still go AutoX with the CEL..
depending on how warm that day will be.

Hmm, are you resetting the ECU whenever you get the CEL? Or does it just go away? But no, air temperature shouldn't set off the light.

No, I didn't have to reset the ECU.
it will go away after a couple of days...

and, the GAS CAP is tight as H3ll. ok. I even have a hard time to open it.
Last time, I cleaned the injector, the CEL is gone for a while... but that also when the weather becomes warm again.. so I don't know what's going on..

Monday, for sure, I will take it to the Dealer.

the code? 7-1,7-2,7-3... random misfire on Cylinder 1-2-3..
I let it idle for a while.... then everything seemed to be OK..
VTEC is on.. don't know about 8400 RPM though.. didn't get the chance to try..

and after the engine warmed up, I shut it off, then start again, the engine is fine.
only when cold starting...

Hmm,
I don't get how the CEl light goes away by itself? In my past experience with Honda's and Acura's you can fix the problem the code indicates and the actual Light will not go away until the ECU is reset???

Well random misfire can be caused by any of these:

Ignition system, fuel supply system, MAP sensor, IAC valve, contaminated fuel, lack of fuel, fuel injector, fuel injector circuit, low compression, valve clearance

Its really hard to narrow it down. The dealer might be able to pull a more specific code.

Yeah, I tried to narrow down the possibilities..
I cleaned the injector, then change gas station for a couple tanks, move the sparkplugs from one cylinder to another, test the plugs cable...
but that's all I can do..
I'll definitely post what the dealer say when I get back from them.

Have you checked your valve clearance? I got the same codes when I first installed my Crower cams. My valves were WAY loose..after I adjusted them it went away.

Something you might wanna try before you go and pay the dealer to scan the code.

Cold weathet DEFINITELY effects the CEL. This is due to the cat not warming up properly in most cases. However, it shouldn't occur unless it's extremely cold (below zero degree celcius) outside. It happened to my EK after the car sat outside for a week below freezing point. It took me a good 2 days of normal driving for the CEL to go away by itself. Just makesure to properly warm up your car when it's cold outside.

Outside is not below 0 yet... but the CEL does go away by itself.. I don't have to reset the ECU.
remember that when I 1st start the engine, it shakes real bad.. I didn't hit the gas or anything.. I want to warm the engine up for a while, but then... CEL blinking..
and stayed on.

um... valve clearance? how do I check it?

OBD2 sucks. Put a OBD1 clip in there w/ a mapped ECU.
1- no more codes
2- more power
3- worse gas mileage(but who cares)

I took the car to dealer, they have no idea of what's going on..
They said they'll call Acura HQ to ask for similar problem...

Today, while I was preparing my stuff for AutoX,.. CEL is back on!!!!!!!!
and didn't go until now.
the exhaust smell like rubber is burning....(or oil).. and the air flow out from the exhaust is like choking.. burp-burp and the engine sounds like an old VW Beetle.
CEL is 71..(7 long blink and 1 short) Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Again, Random misfire....

OOh.. but since I have to take the car home, I drive slowly..
and managed to go past 6K RPM.. VTEC is on...
but it takes more than 1 minute to go 6K...
(I just want to know whether VTEC is engaging or not)....

71 is Random Misfire (probable cause according to helm: Ignition System, Fuel Supply System, MAP sensor, IAC valve, contaminated fuel, lack of fuel)

Interesting... I have similar problems on my modded GSR. I thought it might be the Todas. I already replaced the plugs, fuel filter and wennt back to the stock fuel pump to no avail. I'm planning on replacing the O2 sensors next as I was running pretty rich for a while.

If you still have a warranty I would definitely take it to the dealership and get them to servive it.
