brakes....
have any of yall with 94-97 accords replaced your rotors?? i just got my brakes done and they said my front rotors are too thin to re-surface and that on the back i need new brake actuators on both disks...anyone know how hard/easy it is to change all that crap?? they want alot of $$$ for it...thanks in advance
The fronts are a MAJOR PAIN in the ***. It is a hub-over-rotor design, which means you've got to get the hub off to get the rotor off.
A lot of people recommend just taking it to a shop.
Write back if you don't know how to take the hub off.
Rear rotors are easy.
I dunno what they mean by "actuator."

Okay, first you have to take off the big nut on the end of your axel. When finished you'll have to replace it with a new nut because you have to stake the nut into the slot in the axel so it doesn't spin off. The big upright part of your front suspension is called the knuckle. 4 bolts go through the knuckle and into the wheel bearing/hub assembly. You might need to undo the steering ball joint and/or lower arm to gain access to this area. Once you can see these 4 bolts you can:
1) If you have a slide hammer, take out the 4 bolts completely and use the slide hammer to yank the hub off.
2) If you don't have a slide hammer, undo the 4 bolts so they're sticking out of the knuckle, then just pound on them until the hub comes off.
This is not fun. If you manage to get it off, the rest should be self explanatory. There are 4 more bolts holding the rotor to the hub. Just take them out and replace the rotor.

Yeah, the front brakes are something that I'd rather have a professional shop do... I think it was $75 for each side for the labor total... a small price to pay considering how much of a pain in the *** it is for the front rotors, and to bleed the brake system completely and correctly...
alright...yeah i b4 my ABS light had been on for like 2 weeks...and i got my job done today..what do yall think it could be?? and from what i understand the actuator is something that draws the brake piston back from after you press the brake...but ive heard the rear rotors are easy...all you do is take the calipers off and everythign falls apart...thats self-assuring huh? ha thanks
also i asked him how much it would be to replace the rotors it i bought some and he said only like $25 for labor which it really not bad at all. one more thing....slotted or cross-drilled?? and which companies are good?

Get a second opinion... these brake/muffler shops will always try to upsell parts that you don't need so the monkey thats doing the job can make his commission..
Brake Calipers rarely go bad on these cars, the pins may bind but just need to be removed and lubed..
They call the caliper "actuators"
They quote you a price for $25 when it should be alot more money..
and they want to replace parts that I find it hard to think they need to be replaced..
OEM front rotors are quite thick and can be re-surfaced many times, I have yet to see front rotors on a later model Honda worn down by normal conditions to the minimum resurfacing point..
Too many "red flags" here.. I definately wouldn't want that shop working on my car..

yeah i might...but you got me wrong on the price...they were gonna charge me $25 to change the front rotors...they wanted like$130 to change the back "actuators"...and by looking at my front rotors they look pretty damn think..ill give you the number later...thanks
go to shop to change fronts. get second opinion on 'actuators'. get blanks, not slotted nor cross drilled because they crack and im sure u dont wanna go through all this hassle again.

i used a haynes for a simple guide but it ended up being used as a seat later on in the day.......... it took me the longest just to figure out how to do it right, after that it took probably 45 minutes to do the passenger front....... your rears are held on by two screws so they come right off
the ABS light can be several different things.....check your ABS sensor on your hub, also check your ABS resevoir fluid level and make sure there is no air in your ABS lines.. it also has fuses so that is where I would start

ok im gettin 2 totally diff. stories about this...one is changing my front rotors is a 45min-1hr jobs..and thats just for one...and on the other hand i went to the auto parts store around the corner and i was talkin to the guy there and he looked everything up for me and he said the fronts are just like the back..just undo the 2 bolts and everything pops off...whats the deal???
I think that may be the case for the 6g Accord, but with the 5g and 4g you have to remove the hubs to get to the rotors. Just take off your front wheels and look. The rotors are underneath the hub.
