Anyone knows if this drops right in, and you'd still be able to use the OEM Honda 1st - 5th Gears?

4.364 doesn't seem like much of a boost. I'd opt for the 4.4 FD if one is ever made for drag applications.

 

Why would anyone even consider using this? The difference is so minimal for all the gears that it would be a waste to do the labor. You save < 5 mph per gear (if that much in most). This seems to be a waste of time to even bother doing. There's much better things you can do than changing the final gear less than .1

 

It says the FD is an optional feature - so I assume it could be swapped in independently of the rest of the gear ratios.

As for whether it'd be worth it, it's most likely designed to work best with their more aggressive gearset.

They say that the guy ran the quarter @ 174.55 mph . . . with a 5th gear of 1.00 (or 1.05), and possibly a tighter FD as well, that's gonna take some mad rpms to get that fast. Either that or really big slicks.

Anyone know what ratios the rest of the gearset is at? And pricing?

 

all someone has to do is call and they should tell you according to the page. also for someone who has more time and finds out the ratios do a comparsion of the gear ratios from that set to stock h22 and h23 trannies

Might want to keep your 5th gear then..

And by the way, the Euro-R/ATR is 3.285, 2.091, 1.481, 1.071 for reference. so call me crazy but I don't see a huge advantage here, other than availability.

 

From what I understand after talking with Jamie at Houseman, you cannot mix straight cut and helical cut gears (other than reverse) on the transmission. This is why he doesn't do a straight cut final drive for a stock H22 tranny.

 

geez I just realized those are all straight cut gears...talk about noisy!

Those are the ratios listed for the "dog ring" synchronized box - I'm not sure they're the same for the road race version. I hope not - with the exception of the (useless) 5th gear, there's almost no improvement in the ratios. I'll e-mail them & try to get some more details.

But I totally agree, straight-cut gears will absolutely suck on the street.
