Default breaking in new race motor

how do most of you do it? at the dealer we breakin motor before the custom have their car back .. we have the motor idle just to set timing and rev to 2500 rpm for 5 min and drop idle for a minute or two and rev again about 3500rpm for 5 minute or so and give a quick steady rev to 4k and drop down too idle ,continue for about 25 minutes..and tell customer to go easy on pedal for the first 500 miles.
my question is how do you guy break in a race motor with out having to drive a car around town . i did my race motor like that but wondering if there's a better way.? thanks

I think that thread was in the Tech forum, if I'm not mistaken.

Search for anything that has to do with break ins, or break in, or breakin, or break-in, or anything else that seems appropriate.

There's always something else you need because it's a neverending money pit!

lots of ppl been talking about runing it really hard to break it in and stuff but personally i would never do that

i would never pass 4k untill after 3,000 miles
change oil after 1,000 miles
just run it real easyand baby it untill 3k

Personally. I let it idle for 20 minutes.
Drive it. 50% throttle runs to 5000-6000rpms, letting off so the piston rings get bathed in oil. Come back after 20 miles of this. Change oil. Drive for 500 miles, not passing 65% throttle and 6000rpms. Change to synthetic. 100% throttle 8-10k rpms..

I did the whole idle rev thing for 20 min, changed the oil , then took it out of the garage and drove it fr 5 miles making changes with my fuel curve via the wideband o2. then cracked it open to 8 grand. Made 40 pulls on the dyno the next day. Firts time i did it this way , I usually do the whole 1000mile slow way, but the car wasnt registered or insured so this is the way I did it.
