Default 2 subs or one big one?

Hey guys,
my question is, should i get two 10" subs or 1 12" sub
i have about 180 to spend on subs

and what kind if so? alpine type r or infinity? i'm looking for better sound quality to put some bass in my car, stock speakers have none. Not looking to blow my ears out, I want something crisp, punchy, and clear.

if you're just looking for some bass, a single 12" should suit you well. There are lots of subs out there for about $180.

We can go on and on...

Adire Audio Shiva
Alpine Type R
Elemental Designs K-series (or Kx)
Image Dynamics IDv3
Image Dynamics IDQv
Infinity Kappa perfect
JL Audio W3
JL audio W6
Stryke Audio AV-12

just some of the few worth mentioning..

I personally like the sound of most 12 inch woofers over most dual 10 woofers. I got a 12 inch polk momo for like a hundred bucks at a local Fry's electronics and am very happy with it. I think you can get them at circuit city for that price too. But especially on a budget I would get 1 12 over 2 10s.

Yeah I dont think a W7 is in his budget. My first system was 2 JL W3's 10's and that hit prety hard with a Arc 500 watt amp. Ive never had a single 12 but I think it would be fine for just rock music.

Ever thought of just 2 8" in the kickpanels with a little custom work?
I your not looking for your car to bump that would be great, youd still get good bass enough to enjoy the song

It would be fine, if you get the right sub, in the right box, with just the right power. If you need help with box specs, send me a email or AIM,yahoo msg, with the size of box you want, and the tunning you would prefer, and I can get you all the cuts for the box, if you would like to biuld the box yourself.

I think most people decide on Sealed for their first setup, nothing wrong with that, though ported is much better. Let me know if you have any questions, If I can't anwser it myself, I can ask one of the other guys at the shop, maybe they can help too.

Ok well i have 1 12"alpine type"r" sub and i love it. But it all depens if you want lest weight in the car, if you want a low sounding sub or a midrange punch to your sub. 12's have a low range and givin enough power can still have a good punch. 10's have a punch to them but lack the low range that a 12 would pick up.

I think that you made a good choice, you will be happy with those products, they are both good quality and durable items. Tell us how you like them.

I find that unless you want SPL sealed is the way to go, there is less emphasis on one pitch and a wider range of music that sounds good on it.

yeah im still saving, i have 60 now, but those are my goal projects, what is good is that my dad approves of it (he thinks car stuff is a waste of money). it will be a good father son project. we might fiberglass it. that seems very unique.

The size of the sub should be pick to the type of bass you want. The smaller the woofer the tighter the bass.

true to only the exceptions, as in if the smaller woofer has a much smaller voice coil.
