Crazy high oil pressure?...WTF?!?!?!?!?!
i just finished building my motor and i put it in tonight. started up like a champ, everything looked good. oil pressure would go about around 80psi right when i started it. i let it run for quite a while, oil pressure was acting completely normal, it would climb to about 85psi at 2500-3000rpm then bump back 5psi and stay there. so after all was said and done i changed the oil filter and put one of those new, smaller honda filters on there in place of the regular fram that i started it up with. as i drove home i started to notice that the oil pressure was kinda high, so to see if it would bump back to a reasonable psi i reved to about 3500rpm and it went up to over 100psi
and was still climbing. wtf is that all about? my old motor was doing the same thing right before i pulled it and i figured it was just the oil pump. i put together a brand new bottom end with GE sleeves new pistons, rods, itr oil pump, etc etc, the head remained exactly the same. the weird thing was the oil pressure was acting completely normal when i first started it then on the way home it got all cracked out again. the gauge im using is a mechanical autometer(the one that has an oil line going directly to the gage. any ideas????

oil pressure will go up as your RPMs increase. As the pump spins faster it pumps more oil, more oil in the system = more pressure.
thanks man but thats not what im asking. yes your pressure will increase with rpms but at a certain rpm it will level out and not increase more than a couple psi all the way to redline. mine keeps going up!!! re-read the post
Not only that but there also a pressure relief valve on the pump that seems to be not working. Since the pump is brand new I doubt its bad I would first try another gauge. I would also keep and extra filter in my car because super high pressure can spilt an oil filter.
Also, keep in mind that some of the new Honda oil filters are made by fram. There are other makers too, its printed at the top of the filter. The fram filters are way lighter than the other ones.

maybe i got the wrong one???
i wouldnt think thered be a difference as long as ity fits.
the majority of people out there dont run oil pressure gauges and would had no idea that their oil pressure was that high, im glad i have one
