How to clean engine bay...
Hey guys. I'm somewhat clueless on how to do this. Is there a certain cleaner I use? How do I do it? Just spray the cleaner in there while the car is on or what? Gosh, I dunno...pardon the ignorance please. lol, thanks guys...
Use Simple Green if its real dirty. People here say that works best. Me, I wipe my engine down with a damp cloth everytime I wash my R.
..I use foaming Engine Brite and Simple Green, and clean the engine bay in this order:
1. Use plastic grocery bags and maksing/duct tape to "seal" all the electrical components and take out the battery and seal off the terminals
2. Spary all dirty parts of the engine generously, including firwall, brake booster, M/C, etc...
3. Scrub w/ a brillo pad or medium hard brush
4. Rinse
5. Repeat until satified
6. Replace battery, remove all plastic bags etc..
*Optional* Dress all hoses, shrouds, wax shock towers, firewall, etc. w/ Armor All or whatever you like, start car and let idle.
Make sure you get the Foamy engine brite b/c it doesn't stink, the regular stuff is horibly volatile and ether smelling, rough stuff on your brain cells!
Good luck, rub a dub dub..

I wouldn't use high pressure spray... Might accidentally get water where you really don't want it. I use a 2 gallon insecticide sprayer (filled with plain water, of course -- duh) to spray the Gunk engine cleaner residue off. Works beautifully to get the "big" stuff off. Then just use Meguiars Final Detailer and an old rag to finish it off.
I use that Simple Green pre-mixed junk. I just lightly spray the bay down to remove any loose dirt, then hose it down pretty good with the Simple Green mix. Let it sit for about 30 seconds to a minute. Next I hose it all down with a light spray of water. After that I usually just let it sit in the shade for about an hour with the hood up. I then come out and do a little detailing in the nook and crannys with some terry cloth towels. And heres the result....

The spray and wash by my house has this "Tire & Engine" cleaner.......
Aka - Simple green that foams as it comes out....
Awesome stuff, I coat the entire bay, let it sit for about 4-5 mins, then blast the crap out of it.
Cleans up nicely, and got rid of all that axle grease I had from a busted boot.

You don't need anything special. Just use Dawn dish detergent (or whatever brand is on your kitchen sink). Why do you think you can get all that shmeg off of your dishes....it is a degreaser. Cover up your wiring harnesses and other electrical goodies with a plastic bag. Use a garden hose to rinse. Mine came out perfect. No harsh cleaners necessary. Try it, you'll be surprised.
Steam buggy baby.....As seen on TV. Works great.
