Immobilizer Question
hey, i have a 99 accord that has a factory immobilizer, i had jus finish installing a viper 790xv in my car(well almost), i've read on this forum that the factory immobilizer can be bypassed, if thats true how long would it take a thief to bypass it, are we talking minutes/seconds, or hours. because i'm not sure if i want to get numerous kill switches if to bypass the immoblizer the thief has to go through hell to do it. thz
You don't need numerous kill switches to bypass the immobilizer for your alarm to work properly. All you need is the proper immobilizer bypass device. Here are some recommended units.
555U from DEI (will require a spare key)
TBHA2 from Peripheral Electronics
PKH2 from bypasskits.com
When these devices are installed properly, a thief would still find it hard to compromise. It's all about the install and layering your security.

oh my bad that i didn't state what i was asking clearly, i know about the bypass kits that will allow you to use remote start without having to leave your key in the ignition, what i was trying to ask was, what if a thief wanted to steal my car or any other car with an immobilizer system, how long would it take him to defeat the immobilizer system and be able to drive away in my car. Please be specific, as far as minutes/seconds, or hours. thz
I would say that a thief would look for an easier target. It would take too long to try bypass it w/o inside information on the particular car. For example, if you look at theft statistics on the Accord you'll see a down trend for the '98 and later models. 1998 is when Honda started using immobilizer circuits.
Cars stolen that have immobilizer circuits are usually done with the "inside help" from a dealer or someone who has access to making transponder keys. In this case, it would take seconds. Without this advantage, it could be bypassed but take too long. This is why I stated that layering security is important. The more obstacles for thief, the better. I also like to relocate the OEM immobilizer control unit.

think about it for a second.
You have every wire a thief needs to start your vehicle all at one ( easy to reach)spot ( your R.S.).
Alls that's missing is breaking the steering wheel lock...
Not that I'm a thief or anything, but a vehicle with an R.S. would be seem to be a much easier target, than one with out...

That's why you have your alarm installed properly and NOT easy to reach. The car without an alarm (regardless if it has RS or not) or an immobilizer circuit is still the easier target. Think about it.....there's nothing extra to bypass.

well even with a remote start in the car, and the thief finds the remote start harness and starter, ignition and whateva wire he needs to hot wire the car. would the immobilizer bypass be activated by the BLUE STATUS OUTPUT WIRE thats coming from the viper alarm, because if he hot wires the car and the immobilizer bypass isn't activated then the car still wouldn't start.
basically what i'm asking is if a thief hot wires the car would the immobilizer bypass be activated also. Thanks

Buuuuttttt......If a thief knew his shizz, and found the 555u...all he would have to do is ground the blue status output, and tap the red wire to constant 12v and he's in business.....sorry to add a dark cloud.
