is your hatch going to stay stripped like that? if so i would think it would be kind of hard to hide the switch

it should be in that same wire loom...what year is your hatch? my rex is a 90..dunno if 88-89 was different, but i dont think it was.

i dont recall seeing more than one yellow wire in there tho, maybe it just looks red? is the yellow wire coming out of the fuel pump side of the harness yellow w/ red too?

dude, thats the fuel guage sender. the fuel pump is under the other black thing, near the drivers side rear wheel well.

cut into where you pointed and you just made a great fuel level cut off switch!

btw, i recommend that you cut into the main relay end, its the same wire but closer to the front, where youd probably have your switch, and less obvious. better yet, remove the yelow/black #7 terminal from the main relay plug, which is a male spade plug, then you can make a non-permanent splice into the system using a female spade plug, wire that to the switch, then use either your own constructed end terminal using a normal spade plug, or get a spare from the junkyard to plug right back into the stock plastic plug. wrap some electrical tape and its totally hidden, and reversible since you didnt have to destroy the wiring harness.

should be yellow w/ black line, and i think it runs all the way from your main relay to the fuel pump...it runs along the driver kick panel through the door seal, back to where the fuel pump is shown in the red hatch on the first post...it can be tapped into anywhere in between but it may be a little tricky to get to in some spots..
