Spoon Pistons - 11:1
I was considering putting Spoon (JEM OEM Balanced) Pistons in my ITR to raise the compresion to 11:1. I was just curiouse if anyone had done it and what type of gains you got. Is it worth the $150 extra for spoons or should I just get OEM ITR. And does anyone have these with a Spoon head gasket (1 ply-11.27:1 or 2 ply-11.54:1)?
Thnx.

How old is your motor? You will need to rehone the cylinder block and allow the new rings to seat properly. Pistons are not a drop-in mod.
I would go with the Spoons if you can

JDM ITR PIstons yield 11.1:1 compression ratio in an ITR engine
The Spoon ones are balanced by Spoon, There should'nt be much of a price difference between the 2 IM me for that.
The Head gaskets are 1 piece (thinner style same as Mugen) add about .3-.35 points of compression, The 2 piece is the same as a stock gasket it doesnt add or subtract any compression.

I recently had my bottom end rebuilt at 48K miles and had the Spoon Sports Balanced JDM ITR pistons put in. I think that the money that I paid for the pistons was well worth it. A little bit more on the torque side was felt, but that is according to my *** dyno. I recently had it dynoed at 159.7, but that is at 4700 ft above sea level here in Salt Lake. The main reason I did the pistons was to satisfy the JUN Stage III Head package that I am aqquiring next week. Those cams will definatly benefit from the higher compression. As for buying the Spoon over the Regular JDM ITR's, I would reccommend the Spoon ones. Even if only for the pretty little Spoon box that you get with them.
Does anyone have any opinions on what I pulled at the dyno? Should it have been higher?

That's probably a good guess - the main advantage is that they are lighter and balanced (but really the entire rotating assembly should be balanced).
Why not pick up the whole Spoon Balanced Block assy JDM ITR Pistons, Rods, and Crank are balanced by Spoon. We have them on special for $2562....
I have the spoon pistons, balanced to within 1/10th of a gram. When they arrived they were within 1 gram, so they needed a little more work...
Anyways, the [my] entire package with spec b's put down 189.9 whp without any cam tuning, so I will say that they are worth it.

what's the point of balancing only your pistons and nothing else?
doesn't make much sense. you should at least do the rods also.
also, does spoon specify which ringset goes with each piston that is "balanced by spoon"? especially when talking in .1 gram intervals, ring sets should be numbered for each piston they were weighed with.

On my set up I went with the spoons because i bought my shortblock brand new,(1-800-79-acura) and I wanted to raise the cr but I didnt want to bore a brand new block(and endyn didnt have stockbore pistons at the time). But in your situation since the motor has some miles on it I would just bore it so you know you will have proper ring seal, and get some forged pistons with the 11.4 cr that you would achieve the other way. Plus the mugen gaskets cost around 125.00 and what happens if you have to remove the head.(I've had to 2 times) it gets expensive.
