what are your goals for the motor? boost or n/a? if you mean reliable, drive everyday, and not driving the bag off of it all the time, it doesn't take too much. if you mean a reliable monster... then you need to invest in the bottom end, valvetrain, girdle, etc...

okay ya i should have been more thourough if i want help hehe

first off going into my new project a 88 civic hatch...

going to be NA
want mid 13's ish or less out of the car
I dont generally drive the wheels off the car everyday but wanna be able to hit some good rpm every now and then...

As far as in reliable i mean if i rev the thing to 8000 rpm and chirp third I dont want it to blow the motor, I dont drive like that off a red light everytime but if i had to i could...

Thanks

Tory

i think you'll find that a b20 vtec is pretty pricey compared to a b18a block. for one thing if you want a good amount of power, your gonna need to up the compression, that means forged pistons because of the 84mm bore. you could make a good amount of power on stock rods w/arp bolts. then a good set of cams, whatever your budget allows. ITR or CTR would be alright, valvetrain to match. get the assembly balanced, lightened flywheel, clutch, use a b16a trans. i used a greddy oil filter adapter for my ls/vtec oil line, works great and has extra ports for gauges, etc... basically it comes down to being as reliable as the combination of parts and the quality of assmbly

relax

just rev it to 8200 and do a lsvtec mine is stable as hell

tricks are to weld the oil holes in teh head not plug it.

and new water pump oil pump and you should be ok.

I run toyo ra-1s shaved on the street dude , traction bars and a lsd.

you don't wanna chirp but there is no chirp in third, with nitto 505's I can more than chirp

set your car up with good tires 215 toyo ra-1 in the front.....roll the fenders and you will see.....

im running a stock bottom end right now in my crx and it is perfectly reliable, i rev to 8000 with no prob. but i agree if you want a fast na car then you will need to build it. especially if you start out with a b20b, its compression is pretty low compaired to the b20z.
