Clutch gurus: Help needed please
Hi ppl,
Got a weird problem for you;
My Prelude has been sitting on axle stands for the last 2x winter months and the battery had gone down near complete dead (the LED on my Cliffor alarm uses more power than the whole system itself just to flash!= cause Gaaawd-d*mnit)
So I hooked my Pug up to it with the jump cables and muti-meter.
Lude batt was 8v Damn it was low, the locks wouldnt even open,
Hooked it up started pug to get some charged into it, after a min or so I got into the lude, checked it was out of gear and started. it was making an abnormal low-rumble and felt it shaking the whole car front (not visible movement but noticable when sat in it) so I immediatly presses the clutch in and it stopeed. So I shut the engine down and sat back to think.
This is obviously a problem after the clutch assembly or at least the gearbox side of the clutch.
I've never dealt with the clutch on my prelude so I couldnt say for sure; but could this be the clutch needing alignment as its been at an angle for so long?
a friend of mine suggested the throw-in bearing but wouldnt that only make a noise and not the rumble feeling?
Any help from you clutch gurus is appreciated thanks

do you think that it is possible since it was angled like that, and it is cold out that maybe some precipitation was around and then it froze on the engauged position?
hence when you slammed in the clutch it went back to normal?
does it still do it when you let the clutch back out?

only happens when the clutch is not pressed.
When you say precipitation (rain) do you mean condensation?
It hasnt stuck engaged, after all the car only has 30k miles on it! not like its worn or anything.
But could the condensation like you say 'freeze' on the clutch plates and send it out of line with the gearbox so needing the clutch alignment tool to be used to correct?
man never had any issues with the clutch before ever, you dont even feel it engage through the pedal its that new; Ive never had to even look at the clutch sys.

lol, I know the feeling!
Im thinkning though it could just not be seated correctly due to the duration its been sitting there at that angle.
If this is the case then just putting it into gear and slowly relasing the clutch should re-seat it. But I cant put it into geat at the mo as the drive shafts are hanging there so would mash-up the arches. I will try this before I start taking anything apart.
any other ideas? c'mon, im sure sum1 has experienced somthing similar! ?

ok maybe im not catching this, but since you put your car up on jack stands have you touched the clutch or any of it compenents? , if you have changed anything then obviously take it out and reinspect and re install, how bad of a vibration was it? and were their andy noises or just vibration?>

Nope, thats just it. Im changine out the cradle. The vibration wasnt violent nor enough to be dangerous on the stands but very noticable.
I believe it is the throwout bearing though and what 'H22A EG' said may confirm it!..

When did the problem happen to you, did you have your Lude raised?
I think the throwout bearing (bearing on the end of the fork that disengages the clutch) may have been unseated though; if H22A EG had the same issue then when I put the new cradle in there and suspension all torqued up then It should after engaging 1st go back to normal. (Hopefully)
