removing air bags...
First, remove the SRS/Airbag fuse located in under dash fuse panel.
Remove glove box to access bolts and connector for passenger airbag.
In order to remove steering wheel, remove three plastic panels on backside of steering wheel. There should be one on left side and one on right side and one on the bottom.
after removal of these panels there should be a torx bolt on each side and a yellow connector on the bottom, these two bolts attach airbag to steering wheel. (I think these torx bolts are T27 size, if this helps)
After removal of these two bolts and disconnecting yellow connector, airbag should come out of steering wheel.
Once airbag is out of steering wheel a bit there should be a black connector for the horn button attached to airbag, remove this.
Once airbag is totally free, you should see 19mm nut that holds steering wheel to steering shaft. Loosen this nut but leave it on a a couple of threads and wiggle steering wheel back and forth while pulling wheel off of shaft. (the nut being on a couple of threads keeps the steering wheel from throwing you in the back seat once wheel comes off). Once wheel is off, make sure you don't spin the Airbag cable reel at all (if you do, it will be too tight and break causing horn and/or cruise not to work.
BTW if the car has cruise control, the cover on the right side of steering wheel will be the cover for the cruise switch. That same torx bolt is behinde this cover. just remove cruise switch and disconnect its connector.

Hence why you remove Airbag/SRS fuse first. Before doing any work.
Have heard of this happening though. Your right, would be funny! As long as I wasn't the one behind the wheel. (LOL)

REMOVE the battery before doing ANYTHING..
My instructor(from college autoshop) once told us a story about some shady stereo place tapped into the hot wires in the airbag system(yellow) and it goes off and knocked out the guy
