Default charging capacitor

I have a used capacitor that I want to install and I was wondering if charging it is necessary. Can I just hook it up and will it be ok.
Thanks in advance

Personally, I'd make sure it's discharged, then charge it according to the owner's manual...better to be safe then sorry...you don't want huge sparks!!

I would charge it as described in the owners manual. I would not worry about discharging it first. When a cap is charged it is less of a load. Whithout getting to technical when fully charge it draws 0 current. So if it is partially charged it will just require less time to charge.

if you want to discharge the cap, then get a small car light and put the end leads on the + and _ of the cap until the light goes completely out.. once a cap is discharged you can recharge it slowly by grounding the negative side. and use a resistor inline with the positve. on the cap..
usualy once a cap is charged you dont have to recharge it
