does vtec not work at all? if that is the case, you should seriously check your oil.

Was the car ever running right on the EMS?

You cant just slap on the AEM EMS and expect it to preform! You have to TUNE it! When you say you reset it to "stock settings" and "take it back to acura" that just tells me you have no idea what your doing with it! Do you mean reset it back to the base map? If so did you follow any of the AEM instructions on seting up your basemap? Did you adjust your timing? Have you adjusted your fuel map? If not, how do you expect your car to run properly? It has nothing to do with vtec.

The base maps are extremely conservative and your car will not run good at all. Plug and Play does not mean plug and race, it means plug and drive to the tuner!

If I assumed wrong and this is infact a tuned EMS then I appologize, go back to your tuner. But jesus christ, some people.

dood, you seriously need to do some research. I have the EMS and I dont care if the car is stock or not you cant plug and play and expect the car to run like stock. setting it back to 'stock settings' shows that you have no idea what you are talking about and need to take it somewhere to be tuned by SOMEONE WHO KNOWS what they are doing. You think acura is going to touch it with the EMS in there??? X10

I could probably straight up swap you a stock 97 ITR ECU for that AEM EMS.
But only if you're really desparate!

haha yeah me too.

Look Acura techs are not going to be able to troubleshoot what is most likely a TUNING issue. What calibration are you running in your EMS? Is it the base map? If so, then dont expect even power to get into VTEC, thats just the way its made.

I doubt your problem is mechanical.

A lot of times, if you have made some drastic changes to the maps (ie. from good tuned map to the stock configuration) the EMS sometimes does not take the entire change, like possible software error. Sometimes have to reinitialize the EMS (powerdown, upload, powerup) to get changes to completely take effect. Try this first.

But i also agree with everyone else. The base maps installed initially are horrible and can cause all sorts of issues.
