Hey, i'm kinda desperate for an answer on this, but on the H22A... on top of the plastic casing for all the injector wires, there is a black cylinder with a vacuum going into it and a hose going out of it into the intake mannifold. I was wondering if anybody could let me know what that is called and what the plug in it is and if it is necessary? thanks a lot!

If this is a JDM H22A and not actually mounted to the manifold then that is not needed. It is for the bypass butterflies in the resonator. The USDM 'ludes have the control down near the battery.
You can take it off, just be sure to plug the vacuum lines.

Are you 100% sure on that?

That black solenoid is the fuel pressure riser where in cold starts it blocks vacuum to the fuel press. regulator thus rising pressure and richens up the mixture for quicker warm ups and to get the system on closed loop quicker. same principle on cold start injectors used as is some late 80's and 90's early toyotas. this is not part of any Federal or California emission feature. the 49 state and California preludes use a fast idle valve which is located also in the intake manifold close to the IAC valve and a vacuum hose runs to the intake pipe near the throttle body on the other hand the JDM engines have this blocked off whit a plate. You can hook it up if you know the pin number of the ecu side, or just take if off and ignore it, but if you're trying to get your engine BAR approved(Ca, peeps) I would take it off and apply the related components that are required for the inspection. and no this not a purge solenoid and second. butterflys solenoid as this solenoids are located in totally different locations.
