1.) Heres my problem. Everytime I change the oil on my car about 1000miles later my car already lost about a quart of oil. I have no leaks or puddles under my car. Someone informed me that the problem might be that my piston rings are going bad. What would be better option to just replace pistons & rings with performance ones or rebuild my motor and put performance ones either way they have to open up engine and put it back together.
2.)What would be pretty good performance pistons for mild setup mostly head work? Undecided on keeping it n/a or turbo
95 gsr w/100,000 miles on it
thx for reply's

try a high mileage 10w-30 oil such as castrol high mileage. it is a bit thicker than mobil 1 30wts. and conventional 30wts. it may slow consumption down a bit, but it wont stop it.
my 96 LS does the same damn thing...I am lucky if my oil doesn't get so low in 3k that my oil pressure light comes on. I am starting to think tegs just burn that **** up

when i had my b16 the same **** was happening and i had no clue where the oil was going. turned out that it was going through the rear main seal. on my gsr i was losing oil from my valve stem seals, but i just replaced those suckers so hopefully i will not lose anymore oil. im about to put my head on tomorrow (crossing fingers) i really hope its not my piston rings because i am so damn broke. btw my gsr has 110 k on it

same here... I changed my oil at 110k miles, and by 111.5k miles, my oil light came on... I started topping off... 1... 2... 3 quarts low! (10w30 Castrol GTX) this is the 3rd time this has happened (I used to check my oil level at every gas fillup, but I've gotten lazy)
I started noticing this from around 80k (I was running 5w30 and 10w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic since the 2nd oilchange). At 95k, I had my valve seals replaced. Didn't help. I switched to 20w50, but was still burning about 1 quart every 1k miles.
I did a compression test, and got 160's and 180's across the board. "Normal" for a GSR is around 210-230 if I'm not mistaken (the Helms manual states a little higher, but a lot of guys on this board have reported 210-230)
I'm waiting for someone to help me perform a leakdown test to see where it's all going...
Oh yea, one more thing - my rear bumper gets covered in soot above my exhaust, and occasionally, I see smoke coming out of my tailpipe. I need to get one of my friends to follow me one day and see what color the smoke is, and how often it puffs.

Try switching to a conventional oil... a lot of people found that M1 Syn burned, whereas a conventional oil such as Castrol GTX didn't... however, that was not the case with me

I had the same problem in '97 gsr w/ 105k on it. I started using castrol gtx 10w40 and after about 3 oil changes, since i've owned the car, it slowed down on the oil consumption alot. Before it was like a quart every 2 weeks, now it's like a 1/4 quart between oil changes. I can deal w/ that. It's wierd though because i have no leaks under the car, no soot on the rear bumper or any signs like that.
My 92' Integra uses about a quart a week, but, I rev to redline every time I shift. I run my car particularly hard and if was was to drive in normal conditions, it would use about 1 1/2 to 2 quarts between oil changes. The harder you rev it up, the more it consumes. My car needs an oil pan gasket but I just haven't had the time to change yet (or maybe I'm being lazy). I also know that my car (along with alot of other Hondas and Acuras) burns a little oil at high RPMS. Me and my buddy happened to bump into each other on our favorite road and he decided to run with me but had trouble keeping up on the corners (95' camaros can't handle like Hondas), but when it was all said and done with, he said he could tell when I would shift because it would spat out a small blue cloud. I also notice when I race this Civic Si. It was that kind of race where you fly up on their *** on some semi-busy local streets, and he sees ya and passes the car he's behind to try to run you and you know you are faster because you basically push them down the road the whole way. But when he cracked second gear and ran it up to 8,000 RPMs, it blew out a nice little cloud of blue **** and took off a little when he cracked third and it did it at the top of third too. I've heard that Honda also finds it reasonable for a VTEC engine to use a quart between oil changes. But I do know on thing, people that have their oil lights coming on right before oil changes should check their oil freqently. Running engines that low on oil completly ruins thems and if anything makes them burn more oil. so all of you better start checking your oil once a week at least!!!!!! the service manual states to check it every time you fill the tank.

you are a maniac.
your motor = fired very soon.

I and a couple of my friends use Mobil 1 5w30 full synthetic, and it tends to burn pretty quick. I've heard nothing but good about Castrol Syntec 5w30 from quite a few people, maybe you could give that a try.
There are two big no-nos that will make any car start burning oil 1)not changing it often enough, every 3500 especially if you drive hard or sit in traffic alot and 2) driving hard before the engine and oil has fully warmed up. Once the damage is done you can try all the oils in the world but it's not going to help.
