Check engine light??
My GF drive a 98 Accord, and her check engine light is on. How can I check to see what CEL it is throwing? Is there a site I can go to in order to see what each code means? I drive a Prelude and there is a site that tells me what each CEL is, so I was wondering if there is one for the Accord also.....
Thanks
Thanks
as far as i know, the codes are the same for all hondas. wait a minute..........the codes are for hondas, but, some models have special codes. i.e. all wheel steering; codes for the v6 accords. and what not. you can look on google, search for honda ecu codes. that will give you the list. then look it up. as for getting the code. on mine, and many others, there is a lil plug that hangs down on the pass. side, to the left of the kick panel, might need a flashlight, and get in the floorboard to see it. take a paper clip, unfold it and put the two ends in each socket of the plug. turn key to RUN position, dont need to start. watch the CEL, it will blink. long=10, short=1. add the number up, look it up. hope that helps. SoLo.

FAQ in the EF Forum. I'm not much on Accords, but most/all Civics have a little red light in the computer and you can just count those, but SoLo has an Accord, so I think you should listen to him over me.

how to get the codes

all hondas use the same 2 digit codes, so any list should do. but here is the scanned pages from the Helms for the 98- 01 4cyl

prelude1897,
yellow's method will work for obd-0 cars, and accords through 1990
solo's method will work for obd-1 cars. i.e., 94-95 teg, 92-95 civ, maybe 94-95 accord and lude,
but for your GF's '98(OBD-2), use jweller's method, or take the car by Autozone and have them scan it (for free of course) with their OBD2 scan tool.

Id just take it to a shop and have them hook up the diagnostic system to it to see what code your accord is throwing. They most likely wont charge you for doing that. My check engine light is on just because the EGR valve needs to be replaced. It took them like a second to see what code it was throwing.
