Default VAFC Gains?

I have been considering a VAFC for my S. WIth tuning reported gains seem impressive, upwards of 9 horses in some of the powerband. I have found a deal for a used VAFC, wiring adapter, and a custom made radio mounting door for 250 shipped. Anyone think this is a good idea?

My only worry is a compromise in reliability, thats the last thing I want.

it wont compromise reliability unless you up your redline, or make it stay on low cam profile all the way to 9k

you might be able to find a VAFC for cheaper, but if u want all that extra stuff buy it.

the car will feel stonger all across the powerband, if you're looking for a good way to up your hp/tq this is the way to do it. just make sure you take it to get dynotuned

Yah make sure its tuned well and your set. Leaning out the A/F ratio will net some nice hp gains as the S runs really rich.

Ok, Im gonna look into this. My friend said I should expect to pay about 120-150 for tuning. Does that sound accurate?

are you stock? even though the S may run rich in stock form, the addition of I/H/E will have a significant effect on the a/f (look at this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=711471)... just something to think about. you may lean it out now, but be careful when you start to mod

i'm not sure if i'm right assuming this, so if anyone has insight on this, correct me if i'm wrong

vafc wouldnt give you more than 2-3 hp, but it smooth out the curve and let you have more useable torque and hp

get it and get your car on dyno

I have been getting anywhere between 5 and 10 HP with the VAFC consistantly.
Once got 13 but it was a slightly modified car. Usual bolt ons.

$100-$150 is about right for an hour of tuning. If it takes more than an hour then the tuner is probably not very experienced with the VAFC.

A VAFC is used for tuning the fuel curve and for adjusting the VTEC engagement point.

I am the tuner. Just fixing VTEC to its best average HP gain, then working the AF to oprimal. You would be suprised how rich Hondas are on the top end from the factory.

VTEC point varries for different cars. I have no graphs on file to show.
