Help! Stranded....
Ok... so everything in my car has been running perfect for several months now. I don't drive my car aggressively 95% of the time since it is my daily driver and it has been sitting for a couple of days outside in the parking lot. I go outside today, get in the car and start it, and the transmission won't go into reverse. It goes into every other gear just fine and if I let out the clutch I can feel it engaging smoothly with no problems. The clutch only has about 1200 miles on it so far (Action 2ks). The car is a 00Si with the stock transmission and diff. When I try to shift in reverse, it almost feels like that little gate that keeps you from going from 5th to reverse is stuck closed. Please help! THanks in advance!
Bent shift rod or fork would be my first guess. Maybe there's an obstruction. I've had the cigarette lighter fall into the boot area before and block me out of fifth until I looked down and saw the lighter.
I'm trying to figure out how this could have happened. Its not like I've been racing the car or shifting hard at all. I still have the shift boot on so nothing could have fallen inside there. All the other gears shift perfectly and as fluidly as ever. What really sucks is that my car is in an angled parking spot right now facing down a hill, so in order to get it any where I'm going to have to get like 4 people to help me push it out....
I'm assuming since the other gears work its safe to drive?

I've had something similar happen in my si, maybe not as bad. I put it neutral let out the clutch, then back to reverse and it usually will go. if that fails, try putting it in first and barely go forward just to engage, then try reverse. Worth a shot.
What you can do to use the reverse is...dont start up yet...but clutch..and put it on reverse...it should go in...then start the car..with the clutch engaged...and then reverse out.
Atleast you won't be stranded until you find the solution.
