What valves good for 150 shot? (and other valve questions)
I have a leaky valve (bout 20 psi) in cyl. # 4 so while I'm at it, I want to get some badass valves that will enable an asswhooping of biblical proportions through the use of nitrous. (haha, actually, just a 150 shot Direct Port)
Anywho, anybody with actual experience with decent sized shots like that, please give me some advice on what kind of valves to get, also, like, I was wondering about performance gains from valves that have those weird cuts at the end where the head is to "improve flow" or whatever.
... And I'm wondering if I should buy oversized valves because they stock ones are leaking or I should just buy stock sized ones and hope a machine shop can fix whatever's causing them to leak.
Also, 11.5:1 compression forged bottom end, block guard, 150 shot be ok?
Thanks all,
Ratliff

oh boy, where to start. First off, first off leaking valves wont be changed with "bigger" valves. You need liners probably put in as well as needing to have the seats cut and re-face the valves.
well I will tell you that I know that a NOS engine likes big exhaust ports and valves but unless you plan on porting this head I would leave the stock size in there, Nitrous makes alot of heat so you want to put a really good valve in there, it's not as critical on the intake as on the exhaust , my suggestion would be to buy a Ferrea valve, there designed with this kind of stuff in mind, we use them in some of the Hot Rod class cars I do and we have 30+psi of boost w/NOS
What material should the valve be made of? Stainless?
And a valve liner... is that gonna make the head any more prone to messing up under lots of cylinder pressure and revs 8500+ ?
Thanx guys,
Ratliff

numonik 90 is the name of the material and it will be a stainless valve but not all are made from the same grade, that's why I told you to go with the Ferrea. And your not going to put any liners in the guides or any where else in the head, it is not a bad idea to replace your guides with bronze guides because of the heat dissipation but it is not absolutely needed
