Heat shield?

What are some of the advantages/disadvantages of removing the heat shield in front of the header??

Pro: Reduced weight in the front of the vehicle
Con: Potential for higher underhood temperatures in a shorter amount of time

so is it recommended to remove the shield (on a stock car)
or will i be risking any potential damage??

If the driving you do is primarily highway driving then you should be okay, but if you sit in traffic a lot, then there is the possibility for damage.

Personally, until I get a header, the heat shields stay.
