On cold mornings, when I try to start, it clicks...why?
More specifically, it wont start the first time, it just clicks loud and maybe turn over 1/2 a turn, then I release the key to on position and try to start again and it fires right up?
Bad starter or battery?
thanks, sohc

would putting the battery in the trunk affect the cold cranking amps?

there is a number on all battery types that states the amount of cold cranking amps, so i dont think so....better batteries/different types have more cold cranking amps and so forth.

I don't think putting the battery in the trunk would really do much for ya for CCA, in Colorado it gets damn cold and I think I have a 500 some CCA on my battery, there are 2 numbers on the battery Cranking amps and cold cranking amps....basically the cranking amps is what it draws to crank a normal temp car (not cold) and the CCA is what the rating is for it to start a cold car (ie tempurature) I could suggest checking your grounds and seeing what CA/CCA your battery is, in colorado I don't use anything below 400-500 CCA. Also pop those lids on the battery and make sure there is enough water in them. Hope this helps.
Same thing just happened with my mom's car. It eventually took 4-5 trys when it finally started. The first 4 times it just clicked. Ended up being her starter. Cost her $270 including labor from the dealership. Best of luck.

It sounds to me like you are having a connection problem. I would remove the battery cables and clean the inside of the ends and the posts on the battery also.
If this does not fix the problem ... a new starter may be needed.

ya shoulda gone to autozone and picked one up for $120 and installed it for her...its actually more than that but they match prices, i found a place for $120 after i had already installed the autozone one, plus lifetime warrenty

I'll vote for bad connections somewhere in the starter circuit. Dirty battery posts, dirty connection where the wire itself connects to the battery clamp? Same story at the other end of the cables. Don't forget the big ground wire from engine/tranny to the body. Corrosion anywhere can do that.
