Whats this really worth?
Hey guys and girls, I need to ask you something. Im looking into purchasing a used 97 Type R with 89000 miles #234, and I want to know if what she is asking is reasonable or not. Here are the facts about it:
1. 89000 miles
2. needs new timing belt as of 90000 miles
3. 2 front tires bald
4. passenger side door not aligned properly, which might indicate a wreck thats not listed on the carfax report.
5. Minor exhaust leak coming from connection at collector.
6. Interior is SPOTLESS... looks like its right off dealers lot.
7. Engine sounds and looks mechanically like new.
8. Carfax report IS clean... / Clean title
9. Several nicks and chips in paint.
10. Front Lip is Cracked completely in half due to curbage and needs replacing.
11. Only a few modifications... including CAI, Headers, Axleback exhaust, Excedy Clutch, and Viper Alarm /w Remote Start.
There might be other determining factors that I overlooked... but I cant think of them right now. She wants like 13-14k for it and to me it seems that its not worth that for the car. NADA says that with the miles that are on the car, that its worth around 11 flat. I was just wondering what everyone thought would be reasonable to offer to this girl without getting myself ripped off based on the way the car looks and sounds.

minie doesn't align and doesn't leak. i bought it brand new like that. i was told its an easy fix.

see if owner is up for compression test, if you know how to do it (very easy to do), then this might make things easy
since the car needs major service, timing belt/tenstioner/water pump/transmission oil change/engine oil change/valve adjustment/dist. rotor/cap/plugs. see if owner will knock some money towards that. and the tire.
check brakes/rotors... also ask if price could be adjusted towards 2 tires. can't think of anything else for now.

i would say that the asking price is above the blue book due to the fact the 97's are rare. however, make sure there is no excessive oil burnage and ask to get a compression check like suggested earlier. honestly, the question is how much do you want this R?
edit: oh, a donut gasket can be purchased for less than 5 bucks.

are you getting this from the dragva forum?
the car has been hit in the rear, it was t-boned. we already went over this in this forum i think once before as well..........
If you choose to buy it, i'd have it checked out by a good body shop first. I offered $10,500 and the guy laughed at me.... whats funny is that the guy posting the ad isnt even the selller....

Oh damn...that is the thread that i got the info from, but i never saw the 4th and 5th pages. I went up there and looked at it myself and it definitely looks like its been T-boned... but she repeatedly said that it was never in an accident and the CarFax report is Clean. lol Guess you gotta love it when someone lies about it to your face. Sigh... anyone know of a 97 R for sale?
