v-tec on accord 5 spd
ok i did a search on this and came up empty handed but i was wondering when the v-tec really kicks in. i cant hear it nor feel it in my car and i have heard debates saying it kicks in at 3200 and also that it kicks at 4000? does anyone really know?
on the sohc vtec accord... the vtec engagement is not fixed and is somewhat variable. depending on the sensors output to the computer and the engine load it can kick into vtec from as low as like 2200 and as high as 3200 (on my 95 I have observed the sensor output real time to confirm).
btw this is all in reference to my 95 sohc vtec.
edit: confirmed the sensor readings I get from my vafc agian with a friend who has a 94 ex auto with only an intake/ exhaust and vafc. we both get the same results.

alright so how do i tell for sure where my v-tec kicks in my 94? do i have to have it dyno'ed to know that or is there a simpler way?

Lol....I dont know if everyone really knows what VTEC stands for......is it Valuable or maybe Vertical...........oh yeah, VARIABLE.......

You dont know when it is going to kick. Oil temperature, Oil pressure, engine speed, and I think even water temperature all create variables for when the secondondary lobes are activated.
Here is a get smart link that everyone who is confused about it should read....

I use my vafc...
although some people still tell me to disconnect the vtec portion cause the ecu engages it lower than I can control... I still run it fully functional.
edit: my spelling sucks sorry.

VTEC light i got a lude and i have no clue what your talking about. and for you question VTEC comes on when the cars going 13 mph or faster, more than 30% throttle. i pretty sure it stays in the same spot , atleast the h22 does, its set for the best performance on that cam profile for your stock motor, but when you start modding, your power curve changes, thats why you tune it on the dyno, well atleast VTEC timing, you run the low cam then the high cam and where they make a X is where you put it at!! get it
damn thats one long *** sentence

Well all i have that would effect any of that is a CAI....i dont know if that is helpful or not? Also reffering back to the lights in preludes do you think they make those for all model cars or just for the preludes?

watch the ecu output signal to the silinoid with a vtec indicator light, voltmeter, vafc, etc for more solid info than "I could hear it hit at...".
btw edited my above first post to reflect the proper rpm range I observed.

It constantly hit at a fixed point cus you floored it...it engages differently based on how much your pressing the pedal/ accelerating...also i don't think it would engage that high

There is no set RPM at which Vtec kicks in. A variety of different things determine when it will kick in. For my Accord it is suppose to kick in at 4200rpms which is about average.
just FYI:
VTEC stand for: Variable valve-timing and Electronic lift Control
and what type of meter are you guys using to monitor the voltage at the VTEC solenoid on the F22B1?
