Question: Pulled off timing gear and crank pulley
I pulled off my timing gear off of my 97 R today. Before I put it back on, I went through my Helms manual and it says I should have a timing belt guide, which looks almost like a large washer, between the timing gear and the crank pulley. Do the R's have that, because the manual is for the GSR, and I dont have the R sup manual. Also, the small key that locks the pulleys in place with the crank looks too small. Am I only supposed to have 1 small one in there, about .25" long"? I had the timing belt messed with by a local shop before, and am starting to think they left something off. Thanks for any help.
There should be flat washers on both sides of the belt-on some lower gears the back washer is actually part of the gear. There should be two little crank keys-one for the lower crank gear, and one for the crank pulley.
Yea, the timing pulley has a built in washer on the backside. So I guess I need to buy a belt guide/washer for the front. And another crank key for one of the pulleys. Thanks.
That looks about right. #15 is what I have for the timing pulley, But my car was missing the frontside washer(#16). Why does the pic only show one lock key(#19). That thing looks way too small to lock both pulleys in place?

It requires two #19's. And they do look too small, but I guess that they are adequate to do the job.

I actually just had to order these parts. I picked up a couple extra 19's. Just incase I lose em. They are relatively inexpensive. BTW yea you need number 16 or the timing belt will start to slide off the cam gears. Not a good thing.
