H22 ENGINE SWAP QUESTIONS
Hey, I own a 92 Prelude si 4ws (5 spd). It is in perfect condition, except it has 116.*** miles. i know its not a lot for a honda, but its too much to want to waste money on adding performance parts. I was to do a h22a1 engine swap. do you think this is a good idea? or should i rebuild the current h23 and supercharge it, or add a turbo. which one would be the best value witht he most HP? what can I expect to pay?
also, are there any things i should look out for w/ an engine swap.. like with getting a new ecu, will i lose my 4 wheel steering? also, what engine .. the 93-96 motor. w ecu. or 97+ motor w type SH ecu.
I need lots of help on this decision, and cost IS a factor.. thanks

best buck for the horsepower would be a n2o system, nothing comes close to it. if you put a h22 you look to spend 'bout $2500 if DIY, and you gain 30hp. for 'bout $3500 you could get a turbo kit, hp gains vary from 60hp to depending how much money you have.
in my case i have a h23 and for $530 i have a car that dyno'd 182 whp and 191 wtq. not bad for the $.

I just finished mine up, JDM H22 swap into a 94 prelude, that originally had the H23 in it.
The things I ran into were I needed an H22 downpipe to match the H22 header. They're different. Luckily Im a pretty good welder and cut the two downpipes in half and mated the upper H22 part to the lower H23 part. Kept the flange and O2 sensor in the same place.
Other issues were the VTEC wiring, but enough of us have been through that now that it's like way simple. So dont sweat that.
Other than that, it's a bolt in swap. Use your existing H23 engine harness, and swap out the fuel rail with your H23 fuel rail. Use the H22A distributor, and it's a simple wire splice to do away with the external coil. I paid $1650 for a flawless complete motor and P13 auto ECU. My car started right up, smoked a bit, and now drives like a dream. Going on 2000 miles.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

yeah my car originally came with a h23. i got a h22 swapped into it. i'm still running with no vtec though. i just got a P13 ecu with a Spoon Sport program. i just need to find the time to do the vtec wiring. i'd say go with the h22, you can always bore and stroke it out.
I definately say go with the h22, I just wish i would havehad the idea 7 years ago. also if you need the pins that connect to the ecu for the vtec wires let me know
