Default Engine suggestions

i was just wondering what yall think would be the engine of choice for me...im still trying to get a prelude and i want to spend about 7 grand for a 1992-1996 lude. i plan on just putting a full exhaust...intake..rims...and thats mostly about it for a while..maybe some cam and crankshaft and other internal parts later on. but which engine would be best for someone like me that doesnt want to do that much. is it worth it to narrow my search to only H22 preludes? or do the H23's pretty much get the job done too? i would like to beat my friends gts celica cuz hes talking alot of smack and is the v-tech that great? ive heard that its just a marketing thing. im not sure. but any help would be great. thanks

Vtec model 4th gens (from the factory) will be more expensive than the S models as they are kinda rare. Personally i would get one with an h23, then swap in a low mileage JDM h22.

good idea. mileage is a big issue for the 92-96 ludes. and i want one pretty much stock so its gunna have alot of miles on it. it would be nice to have a fresh engine in that beautiful car

well first see what you can find locally if possible, and then consider the cost of a swap on top of purchase price for an s or si as opposed to the vtec model. I just swapped an H22 vtec into my si, and let me say yes it is a huge difference, especially with the jdm engine, its an extra 40 hp stock!

damn. thats definatly something for me to consider then. should i look at the prices of the v-tech ludes and compare to the non-vtech price including the engine swap? but then you gotta consider the high mileage that most likely will be on the stock v-tech lude. rather than the low mileage thats gunna be on the JDM H22 engine when you swap it in.

I'd suggest just getting a VTEC 4th gen. It shouldn't cost too much more. 7 Grand is plenty of money and probaly almost enough to even get a 5th gen. I know I bought my fully loaded VTEC lude like 3 or so years ago for 6 grand, so you should have more than enough. Also there is nothing worse in the world then realizing a couple months from that you wanted to get the VTEC model. Might as well get it now and save yourself even the possibility of regreting your decision down the road.
