My brother who lives in La bought a 1988 merkur xr4ti (sp?) not long ago. car has only @3,000 miles. Anyways, he is looking for shop to help with the project. coswort intercooler and exhaust already installed. needs a turbo guru type shop. any ideas on where to go? I know about west side performance , but any other good shops near santa monica? thanks. also any knowledge on how to get power out of the merkur would be most helpful. thanks again.

Those are just a 2.3 sohc motor, right? They save the Cossie motors for british
Sierra's... So really you are just looking at a SVO Mustang setup ( More or less ).
Since you don't have the belt drive Cosworth motor ( would be a BDR I think )
you should be able to find some SVO mustang guru's somewhere....
The Merkur XR4TI ( correct! ) was a bit of a bastard child, kind of like the
Subaru RS 2.5... Only the European version has the good stuff...
Just so you know the Merkur 5 speed is the same case as the 4cyl Mustang 5
speed... But with a closer ratio gear set... incase yours breaks..
Just as an aside, I have an issue of Redline Magazine with a dyno contest...
some of the 2 litre Cosworth Sierras are putting out over 350WP with very few
mods and on stock motors... TOTALLY AWESOME!
thanks Lotus. yeah, kinda like a turbo mustang svo I guess. I know people have had some success in making the american version preety fast. cosworth makes alot of parts for the american car/motor also.
any more ideas on shops in LA area anyone?

the Merkur XR4Ti 's engine is the same as the Ford Mustang SVO and Turbo Capri from the '80's . It's a Sohc bloack based on the old Pinto engine. You might want to search some of the Ford sites. You can basically use a T4T3 for more power because the car came with a T3.
