Default Motor Question?

I just bought a 92 prelude s-type .
It has 240k miles and I am looking at new motors. I have been looking at B18's and H22's. My question is wich would give me more bang for my buck. I no the b18 come's with 180hp and the h22 come's with 200hp. I am looking for something fast, and still be able drive it every day. I want to be able to beet those people with V8's that think that just because a car has 4 cylinders its slow. Any help would be nice. Thanks.

H22. Less money, more power and it belongs in the Prelude.

A simple h22a swap with minor bolt ons and some weight reduction should put you in around 14.6-14.9 depending on how well of a driver you are. A good rule of thumb is you are about .1 faster on the 1/4 mile per 100lbs lost.

Keep in mind most decent stock v8's run low 14s.

prelude is already a bit sluggish w/ the H22, you can only image what a B18 would do. Plus never heard of anyone putting a B18 in a Lude.

I've seen a b16 in a lude before of course it was in an older lude like H22A EG6 said....it was an 86 prelude. Big difference compared to the stock 86 prelude A20A.

If you got a B18C (GSR) it has 170hp and < 150lb/ft torque. An H22 (Prelude VTEC) would put down 190hp and about 160 lb/ft torque. The H22 would roughly go for around $1000-$2000 cheaper for a complete swap JDM or USDM. Also the H22 is about 300 lb heavier and is designed for the Lude. Something to think about.

Where are you getting your specs? B18C1- 128ftlb of torque, B18C5- 132ftlb of torque, no way a b-series can make 150ftlb's of torque stock. The H series motor is 76lbs heavier than a B16, and about 60lbs heavier than the B18C.

yeah the older preludes did come with the b20. and don't just go with a normal h22 swap. you have a type-s. so personally i think you should go with a h22 type s motor. so then things would be exactly the same with the new motor. just another think to think about.

he has a s-type, not a Type-S
Type-S is a very rare variation whereas s-Type is quite common

Type-S = 220bhp H22a plus different gear ratios set for acceleration
JDM only

type-s = h22 (DOHC)

do they even call it a s-type, every lude in the world that i have seen that is an S , is just called a Prelude S. you don't hear people saying "Yeah, i got a honda Prelude VTEC-type". its just prelude s. and get a JDM h22a will have alittle higher compression, get you alittle more HP. i am jealous of you money silver paint job
