Default shifting problem.. help

i jus did a tranny swap.. and i have a problem with the shifter while its in neutral.. it moves smoothly but as i move it to the far left or far right , the shifter begins to get stiffer and harder to move...it also makes clicking noises moving far left and right.. it requires much force to move and it isnt very smooth... shifting into the gears is no problem but only when its in neutral this happens... what could the problem be? maybe bad shifter bushings?

syncrhomesh doesn't do ****. but the nagain i havn't tried the kind with the friction modifier.

Sounds to me like ur shift linkage is either bent or ur forks are bent. I would jack the car up and take a gander at where the shifter connects to the linkage and look for anything bent or any severly worn bushings.

i have gm syncromesh alreayd and the fluid does not affect how ur shifter shifts i dont think... and my fork is brand new from the dealer so i dont think its that so is the spring in it.. there was no visable signs of bents on the shift linkage but i will double check.. my only reasonable solution was the shifter bushing ..anyone else know?

lol @ bleeding the clutch to affect tranny smoothness.

the tranny has about 45k miles on it.. and bleeding the fluid affects the clutch stiffness but i dont think it affects the shifter stiffness... anyone else know?

But that happens in the fore-&-aft motion of the shift lever. NOT in the side-to-side motion while in neutral.

Yours is in the side-to-side motion within neutral, right? So I vote for linkage problems, maybe including the selecter rod & forks in the transmission.

Lift & support the car. Crawl underneath while someone sits inside, have them push the shift lever side-to-side again & again. Look for the linkage rubbing against the exhaust? Against the floorpan? Against ANYTHING??

Sure. If you disconnect the bottom end of the shift lever from the linkage, then you'll see if the lever pivot ball is gunky & sticky. That's a good guess, but you aren't gonna know until you get underneath & see.
